Hi,

I'm finally able to buy a house now that interest rate, and prices are down. Everyone says location, location, location... but I can only spend $150k! So almost all of the houses I look at are either dumps, or in SE Portland. I use Portlandmaps.com to make sure I'm not in a bad crime pocket, but does that count as a "good location" for my property value to rise? Today I'm looking at one on 104th between Holgate and Powell, which is actually one of the better areas I've looked in.

So far I haven't had any luck with short sales, and someone always has a higher offer than I do. I'm mainly looking for big lots, so SE seems right up my alley, easy commute and all.

So does a "decent" neighborhood in portlandmaps.com count as "location, location" ? And does anyone have any ideas on where I should definitely NOT look? I've lived here all my life, and it's just these weird, different pockets of neighborhoods, where every couple of blocks is a whole new world, in a matter of speaking.

Thank you !

Vancouver has several neighborhoods off SR14 with houses in your price range.

Have you looked at the Milwaukie area? Prices look pretty low out that way, and I don't feel like it's as questionable an area as is Portland, east of 205. It's a pretty easy commute into town, too.
