I am not a minister I just picked friendly words. We are looking for a place to move to to "Feel Good About" living there ! When I look over everything Beaverton and L.O. seem good.. I am a wanna be tree hugger, a bicyclist, or sculler. I am 56 and my wife is 50 and we have a daughter 10. My question is, "Where can I live" ? I am not a geek, and I can apply for tanker or trailer driving.(real work), so I am not concerned about the high unemployment stories. I can not find online, the CUTE downtown areas so easily except for Lake Oswego ! Are there any more like Burlington, Vt. or Currier and Ives little N.E. burbs near Portland ? I read about L.O. and the hanging flower baskets and that West Linn has no downtown. I find strip plazas distasteful. I know the Columbia River is not good with the wind and you do have Russian out there. My wife is Russian. thanks everyone

THe Sellwood or Laurelhurst areas come to mind. If you can afford it, the Ladds Addition is a real gem of an area as well.

Please, for the sake of your readers...take a high school writing class. Either that or drink after you make your post like I do, because this one is very illegible.

What I can make out of it is if you are 56, and a trucker, that unless you have something like special skills in hazardous materials I think you should be concerned about the high unemployment. Without something like that, it will take awhile because employers have their pick of people out here to take any wage.

As for cute areas, I don't know of any like what you are talking about with the limited and hard to read info...especially that I have never lived in any of the areas you reference.

Ah, now we know the answer for Oregon's high unemployment. We aren't looking for "real work." Thank you for enlightening us.

I'd guess the writer was probably Czech or Hungarian and writing in his second language. Why crap on him?

Again: if you can't make out his best efforts and have nothing to add, why crap on him?

Wow. Jump all over the guy, why don't you.

I think that some of the neighborhoods that have the nicest "village" feel to them would be: Moreland, Sellwood, St. Johns, Kenton, Multnomah Village. Most were separate towns once upon a time, so they have more of the town feel to them.

There are some good neighborhood resources at, and linked to at this site.

If some one is asking for help and depending on the kindness of strangers, at least one can work their best in order to make themselves understood to their audience. Being unable to communicate will also provide a person a pretty major impediment to finding a job, especially when you have your pick of college grads. It's easy to be dismissed because your listener cannot understand you.
