I wish more people thought Portland sucked. Let's spread the word.

It's a completely silly article, and yes, very funny. So, the OP's linky writer can't stand Portland. Other posters can't stand Portland. I don't care, in the most shoulder-shrugging "meh" sort of way.

My biggest disagreement with the article is the criticism on not being able to pump our own gas. I'm proud that we have those jobs available (and most of them are NOT non-English speaking illegals, either).

You know what I hate most about Portland: The lush greenery. Oh and the amazing music scene. And how affordable the city is. GOD WHAT A DRAG.
I hate that it's so close to the one of the most amazing coasts in the U.S. I also hate the liberal art scene. Even worse than that is the variety of delicious food to choose from. And worst of all? The crime rate. I like cities that keep me on my toes. I also can't stand public transportation. I want to drive everywhere all the time. The number of universities in the area really irks me. Oregon in general - GROSS!
WORST CITY EVER! Tell everyone!

I cannot imagine how anyone could be proud of the requirement for attendents to pump gas. What is good about requiring expenditures for jobs which are totally unskilled, dead end, and are just plain wasteful. This is entirely opposite of what should be done. If Oregon wants to create jobs then the State should look for ways to develop jobs that build skills and provide for advancement and jobs which actually provide some worthwhile product or service.

Well, you know what, it has gotten increasingly more difficult for the less-skilled Americans to obtain jobs, and your posting sounds as though they should be swept under the rug. NOT EVERYONE is going to advance, not everyone is going to make lots of money in their lifetimes. And I'm sure that many people pumping gas are damn glad to have their jobs.

A just a trivia question:

Does you check hurt when you got your tongue stuck that far into it, and for that long of time? Just asking, when I try to write like that anymore, it just hurts too much. But then again you could be younger than I am..

Oh, very funny BTW.

Phil

..... "And I'm sure that many people pumping gas are damn glad to have their jobs."
Not that I noticed. In any case requiring attendents is a total waste of mankind. Instead what about looking for ways to help the the unskilled gain some skills so they can get a worthwhile job with decent pay? No, not everyone will be able to develop and handle a skilled job. The vast majority will and instead of making worthless jobs let's find another way to help those with deficiencies.

I felt the same about all of the bums living on the Portland streets. Somehow there seemed to be the attitude that this was it ok and acceptable. Isn't is way past time to end this situation and get them off the street? And NO, I do not mean swept under the rug. Many of these people are clearly in serious need of help. It is way past time for Portland and Oregon to step up and do something for these people and at the same time end the unsavory and potentially dangerous conditions that now exist.

you continue to baffle me with your line of reasoning.
