According to Travel+Leisure Magazine our infamous Portland Building isn't just the strangest looking building downtown--it's one of the ugliest in the entire world.

The World's Ugliest Buildings- Page 7 - Articles - Travel + Leisure

I'll agree that it's still a pretty strange looking building with it's pastel color design scheme, boring interior(I've heard it's awful to work in), and the placement of the huge Portlandia statue on 5th Street, where it's barely visible to the casual observer was kind of a poor choice--but is it really that bad?

I guess I've become somewhat accustomed to it at this point. It's kind of a an interesting part and distinctive part of the downtown landscape.

What do others think?

I always liked it. It's different looking and unique. I certainly wouldn't call it the ugliest building. I understand it is falling apart though. Portlandia looks out of place there though. A better place for her could be found.

There are some real doozies on that list. Not sure the Portland building is quite in their league.

I don't think it is the ugliest in the world - but I do find myself liking it less and less the older I get. When it was first built, I thought it was the coolest thing since sliced bread. LOL! I agree that Portlandia could find a better home. I think that big pile of zoobomber bikes would look great in her place.

I always thought it was ugly as a mud fence. But I do like Portlandia and wish to Hell it was given a better placement.

I actually like it very much, and is heads above many government type buildings out there.

Just wondering what that new "monstrosity" is being built right in middle of the city, huge light blue (glass?) looking square building. Talk about ugly!

It was the first building the architect had constructed. My husband was an architect in Portland at the time and predicted it would be a maintance disaster, the architect had a 'designer' focus and it was a design-build project. We still use a cookie tin of the building. Nuf said.
