Hi there
Planning to move to Portland in about a year from Las Vegas. Can anybody recommend some real nice modern, chic, salons to go check out? A salon that has a good reputation, cool owners, and as drama free as possible. Thanks!

1. Portland is not upscale
2. High end salons are suffering due to the terrible economy here. (lack of discretionary income/unemployment)
3. Those that do have those jobs aren't leaving.

If you want to scope it out then come up here and do some FTF networking. Better yet, start your own salon.

Still here? Check out these places. I've been to both and both have some great stylists. Their sites are representative of the salons, i.e., more formal vs. young & cool. Akemi is in a very nice, renovated building...lots of little stores, coffe shops, cooking venues, etc. Good luck!

My feedback reflects the current reality based on demographics, local economy and high unemployment situation.

If I portrayed a rosey/optimistic picture then I'd be guilty of "forum malpractice".

The suggestion of getting on the airplane and comming up to look around/network and scope out future employment prospects is the best advice you'll get!!

Good luck

You might try Magnus Opus. My stylist worked at Magnus for many years before he opened his own shop with another MO stylist. I believe Magnus has an excellent reputation. Check out the pic of their new salon.

I've been tempted but never gone in but the Aveda salons look quite nice and like what you might be looking for.
