I am wondering how usable the Wildwood Trail is during the wet winter months for trail running?

Now, getting dirty isn't a concern, but I am wondering if the trail gets too muddy to use. I ask because I understand that much of the trail contains technical obstacles and such, and adding sloppy mud can usually lead to a nicely twisted ankle.

Any experience? Thanks!

Yes, on certain portions of the trail there are many rock outcroppings and roots that can get pretty slippery when it's wet. The number of trail runners certainly decreases during the winter/wet season, but there are still quite a few out there. I guess they enjoy taking the increased risk.

I walk the trail year round and I would have no problem running it in winter. Trail running is risky to the health of one's ankle's period, but if one is an experienced trail runner one probably has developed a certain footstrike that decreases that risk. That technique is useful in the wet as are good trail shoes. YMMV.
