The best Mexican/Central American places I found were in downtown Hillsboro, near the end of the MAX line...a couple of storefronts, and one place that was called (I'm drawing a blank here) -- Tres Hermanos? It had a cartoon sign with three serrano peppers.

Vietnamese food was always hit-and-miss, which is not surprising, as it's tough to grow or get the fresh ingredients necessary; Portland is too far north to grow the right herbs.

Some very good Japanese restaurants around town, but the best ones are pretty expensive.

What the city really needs is a good Lebanese/Middle Eastern restaurant. That's a fortune waiting to be made.

One thing that hardly ever disappointed was the food carts around town -- for some reason, whatever the cuisine, they all tended toward the very good or even excellent.

When you walk into a good Indian food place, the smell of all the spices should make your mouth start watering right then.

My favorite little Vietnamese place (which I can't remember the name of) is on Sandy Blvd, across the street from Bike Gallery. There are good, mediocre and bad Asian places in Portland, but there are a LOT of them, so there are a lot of good ones. Which means there are a lot of bad ones, too, so if you get a bad one (mostly "gringo" Asian places, which have that stale, steam table food instead of freshly made), just go somewhere else next time.
Yea Bombay cricket sounds good. Is India House and Bombay both vegitarian totally or is it chicken too? The mediterranean has to have lamb so id guess it has meat lol. Im mediterranean also haha.
Yea I avoid chinese restaurants that have white people working all over. The food has never been good in that event I find. I come from Boston area so the chinese is never/very rarely gringos there lol altho some bad places too like anything else. As far as vietnamese, never been a fan. The food is too light and cucumbers isnt my favorite thing to eat and a lot of what they got has cucumbers and light egg rolls with all that fresher junk in it lol.

Yea dude I like Japanese but ya you gotta want to spend money for less amounts of real good food. I pick chinese anyday for the opposite reason.

And the lebanese/mid eastern restaurant, that sounds delicious especially seeing I once had arab neighbors and they cooked real good. Any city could use one of those.
Any portuguese food in Portland?

Some of my favorite restaurants are:

Shanghai Noble House (Chinese) & Pepita's (Mexican) both on Macadam
Blue Fin Sushi on Broadway near PSU (on Saturday each dish is $1.25)
Rose's (Deli) on NW 23rd
New York New York or Stanish's for greasy goodness, both in SW.

I honestly haven't tried any middle eastern or indian restaurants here yet because I usually just make that kind of food at home.

I did leave out alot of details huh? Anyway, Shanghai Noble House is delicious, cheap, and filling... usually you will need to take it home. I think lunch is like $6.95 and that comes with tea, soup, & your entree. Dinner is a little more, with way more options and the plates are HUGE. Rose's is jewish, they even serve matzo ball soup. NY NY is italian, with huge hot subs, pizza, pasta etc. Stanich's is pretty much only burgers, and it's a sports bar atmosphere, some people might be turned off by it but it's a nice little neighborhood burger joint.

Yeh Ha?

For Dim Sum, I think Wong's King is probably the best; most popular.
