But seriously I really wanted to know how one goes about networking in a place where they live in a place where they don't. I would like to know that for my own relocation plans.
By doing as much research as they can from where they currently live but then spending time doing the actual networking where they want to live.

That means using up vacation time, taking a LOA, doing it on days off, etc.

No-one said it's going to be easy.

This is SO true. In Portland, at least. It may sound exaggerated, but it really isn't.

To answer everyone's question: I was able to network with a friend, who comes into the restaurant that I work at, who is also a manager at a restaurant chain in Indianapolis, who also knows a manager in that same restaurant chain in Portland. He is going to help me get out of the stack of resumes/applications when I apply in July since I am arriving in August. I just met him at his restaurant, between 2-4, he has seen me work, so he called the manager right in front of me. Now when I fill out that electronic application in July, I am going to go back into this restaurant and have him call this other manager again.

That is exactly what I want. I am 28, just broke up with my girlfriend and have lived in Indy all my life. I have always wanted to live in the west coast, but Portland is calling to me.

Good for you. That's the way to do it. Best of luck with your move here.
