This is what I was thinking too: Summer? It's only May! Summer is the two or three weeks between July and August, right?

I was born and grew up here but this is getting re-freaking-diculous.
A few years ago I felt the same way, and that was in late June/early July. You're early yet!

The wetness of this spring really doesn't seem that unusual at all to me, but it has definitely been cooler. I'm still running my pellet-stove!!!

Not at all unusual for June to be wet 'n' dreary, or for good weather to kick off for 4th of July.

There was no "heat wave" last year, although the 4th of July weekend greeted us with temperatures in the high-90's. There was a summer a few years ago that had several days in the mid-to-higher-100's. Now THAT was miserable!

What!? There certainly was a heat wave last year! I believe the record high for Portland is 107 degrees. Last year, the daytime temperature during one week was 106 degrees almost every day, only one degree away from the record!

Today's forecast high -- depending on what weather forecaster or agency you talk to -- is somewhere between 105 and 109 degrees.
If you were taking bets, one way to tell where today's high in Portland will top out is to look at where the temperature was yesterday at a particular time.
At 11 a.m. yesterday, the temperature at the airport was 88 degrees. At 11 a.m. today, it was 90 degrees. By 2 p.m., the temperature had soared to 104 degrees, and was closing fast on the record and threatening to create a new all-time high.
Smart money would bet on a high today of 108 degrees, breaking a record that seemed unbreakable, but now seems reasonable.

This is what I found, which differs a bit from yours. But it was still a very hot week. Apparently, I didn't "feel" the heat as bad as the one a few years before. I do okay with mid-90's.

Portland, Oregon's daily temperatures during the 2009 heat wave:
  • Friday, July 24: High 85 °F (29 °C), Low 59 °F (15 °C)
  • Saturday, July 25: High 90 °F (32 °C), Low 63 °F (17 °C)
  • Sunday, July 26: High 93 °F (34 °C), Low 61 °F (16 °C)
  • Monday, July 27: High 103 °F (39 °C), Low 68 °F (20 °C) (Broke July 27 record set in 1958)
  • Tuesday, July 28: High 106 °F (41 °C), Low 74 °F (23 °C) (Broke July 28 record set in 1998, first time ever 106 in Portland)
  • Wednesday, July 29: High 106 °F (41 °C), Low 71 °F (22 °C) (Broke July 29 record set in 2003)
  • Thursday, July 30: High 96 °F (36 °C), Low 67 °F (19 °C)
  • Friday, July 31: High 94 °F (34 °C), Low 62 °F (17 °C)
  • Saturday, August 1: High 95 °F (35 °C), Low 63 °F (17 °C) (Broke August 1 record set in 1949 and tied in 1986)
  • Sunday, August 2: High 94 °F (34 °C), Low 65 °F (18 °C)

Well, let's keep our fingers crossed for a sunnier June than we typically get. I won't hold my breath, though.

UGH!! Give me the mid-70's anyday.

My ideal is 80 - 85 or so.

I do find it difficult when June ends note on 60-degree temperatures, then launch right into the upper-90's, like it did for the 4th of July last year.

This weekend isn't going to be sunny, despite what they've been saying. I've been watching the forecast and every time they predict sun, the number of days we're supposed to have it dwindles until there's nothing left. It happens every time. They're saying 73 and sunny on Sunday? Fat chance. Get ready for 60 and rain.
