I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but since people here are parents I thought someone might have had this experience. I took a home pregnancy test last night. It was earlier than I thought I should take it, but just couldn't handle the wait and figured if I got a negative I could at least then convince myself that it's too early and stop freaking for a couple more days. I took it at 10 days past ovulation and it says best results after at least 13 on the website I checked.
Well, I took the test anyway and got a faint positive result. It's the kind where a second line is supposed to show up and it was a very faint line. It's visible, but not dark like the other one. Has anyone had this happen and then had a negative come after it? From what I have seen that is usually followed, when it's closer to the day of your period, by a more visible positive test.
I'm really excited about this, but trying to keep a level head because I am waiting until Sunday morning to try again so I don't waste money on buying the tests. Anybody had this happen? Thanks!
i had a faint result once and called the 800 number because i was confused about it. the person on the other end of the line told me that i probably was not pregnant. i later came to find out that i was (with twins!). you may indeed be pregnant (or may not be).
Ok- when I was pregnant and took a home test, I was afraid of a false positive as well. My doctor told me a false positive is very rare- that false negatives are more common.
There is a hormone in your urine that triggers the positive result- and maybe at 10 days past ovulation the hormone is less prevalent and thus the light positive result.
Another thing- if you let the thing sit long enough, it may give you a false positive though. But if the PLUS sign showed up in the time frame indicated, I'm inclined to say
actually, i could only eat half of my breakfast today... either nerves or actual pregnancy are making my stomach queasy. however, i was feeling that way for about a week and a half now... which was one of the reasons i was feeling hopeful this month. i'm waiting until sunday because i know if i wait 3 days and get another light positive i'll have the willpower to wait another 3. i've got 3 more tests at home right now.
oh, and the test said to wait 3 minutes to check the result and the line showed up after 1.5... i really need to find a way not to focus on it or i'm going to drive my husband crazy this weekend!
3 more tests? whatd'ya do buy em at sam's (wholesale)?

IMO... you are totally preggers I don't want to give you false hope of course but the same thing happened to me. I checked earlier than they suggested and got a faint line and like the previous poster said, false positives are almost impossible and sure enough I was pregnant. From my understanding the pregnancy hormone hCG is the only thing that will make that second line. In the early days of pregnancy this hormone is not as easily detected therefore the line is not as defined. Next time you test take it in the morning (your first urination) and the line should show up better. I am pretty sure that you are expecting. CONGRATS!!
