I do realize you are trying to "make light of the situation" but it doesn't show much respect for the children.
It sure would hurt me as a child to hear people making fun of my mother in which I love so dearly.
Poor kids
I'd have a hard time loving my mother so dearly if she was using me to manipulate the world into giving her money and if I was just an object to her to satisfy some insane "need."
I feel badly for all her kids, but the truth is, she put herself in the spotlight. A few jokes are bound to come her way. Hopefully, all the jokes will die out before the kids are old enough to understand them.
