Does Epidural hurt? Did you have any complications because of it?

No complications here. I went ten hours natural labor before getting it; it didn't even pinch at that point! My doctor asked me if I would get a root canal without novacaine; I said no; she said to get the epidural. I could have gone longer without it, but I ended up in labor 22 hours before they took my son cesarean, so I'm glad I took it.

I had an epidural for my sons c-section. It just pinched a little for just a few second, no big deal. I had no complications from it at all.

I had spinal anesthesia for a c-section, not an epidural. I didn't feel a thing. I only had a minor complication of an occassional tingling feeling in my buttocks which is also a complication that can occur as a result of an epidural. The tingling went away permanently after a few months. The only other complication I had was a weak bladder, but I'm not sure if that was the result of bruising the bladder during the c-section or the spinal anesthesia since both can cause bladder complications. I wasn't having accidents, but I was urinating frequently with an intense urgency. Regardless, the bladder issue resolved itself within a few months also.

You know you're going to get a different answer from every woman, right? LOL! The best advice, IMHO, is to do what feels right for you at the time. Don't let anyone guilt you into (like the dr. mentioned above) or out of it, (over-zealous natural moms).

I had my first one without an epidural, IV, nothing. It was a long, steady labor. My second, however, came on like gangbusters and I got an epidural. It was extremely uncomfortable during a contraction, having to stay curled up and still, but oh the relief!

Personally, if your baby's not in jeopardy either way, I say you and your husband decide yourselves. Don't listen to any of us!

Good luck. I bet you have an easy time of it, really.

I knew before being pregnant I would never have kids unless I had an epidural

So I wanted drugs asap

If you are worried about a "pinch" of a needle - you should have it cuz giving birth is much worse.

Bah. Completely unnecessary. My wife had 3 kids and the most pain I felt was a bit of a tummy ache from eating too many Doritos while waiting for her to quit whining and push 'em out.

Labor pains are so bad that an epidural is like a mosquito bite, if that. I felt absolutely nothing.
