Is it realistic to live in Clarkdale and commute to work in Prescott? How is the highway? Looks pretty windy on the map!

yes, it's very windy in parts...and hilly...and two lanes.....might get old really fast.....

can you check it out before making a decision?...if housing costs are the concern, there are decent options on the Prescott side of the hill!

I know people who do it but I wouldn't. It's an hour each way, whether you take I-17 or over the mountain. I always go over the mountain and it takes me exactly one hour. Unless there's a lot of snow or construction. The mountain road is VERY winding but I-17 isn't, so much.

I agree. It would be a tough commute and the Jerome road would be very dangerous in the winter.

For that matter: living in even Mayer would be much safer since the 69 is a nice easy 4-6 lane highway.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I hope to make a visit soon, but it does sound like an undesirable commute. Just curious ... does the same apply to commuting to Flagstaff?

Yep, any commute from Prescott to Flagstaff or Clarkdale to Flagstaff, it will be A LOT of mileage and a tough commute during winter. There will be times when the roads will be very icy & snowy, the roads can be very dangerous and impassable at times.
