We are wanting to move to this area by the summer. In doing so we would like to rent a newer 2 bed, 2 bath home in Good condition. ("Newer" meaning built in the 90s or later with central air.)
In which of these towns might we find somewhat lower rent for a home like this?

You need to define, "somewhat lower rent" before we can give you any advice.

That said, you'll be paying more for newer homes (built since 1990), as the supply of those is generally lower compared to what's available for rent overall. Generally, cheaper rentals are available in Chino Valley and Dewey versus Prescott Valley or Prescott. On the flip side, most new construction has been in Prescott Valley, Prescott, and Chino Valley (roughly in that order from most to least). I'd suggest Quailwood (in PV/Dewey) and the neighborhood in Chino (Brightstar? - not really sure what it's called...) given your requirements.

FYI, if you rent a house in Chino Valley, you have to configure your gasoline cost to commute to Prescott. You are better off renting closer to your work.
