How're the poker games in the Prescott area? I hear AZ only allows spread limit cash games--got much of a home game scene? Gotta know people to get in? Any known statutes against home poker games in AZ?

From my understand it's technically illegal in Arizona, I play a few live games at this place by my house, you guy in with real cash, usually $20-$60, and then the prize at the end is a gift certificate to the palce, or other items like Xbox 360s, Laptops, etc.

I mostly play at casinos or online, there are a few in Prescott that should have some decent games, lots of fish.

I play online as well but prefer to play live NLHE games. Spread limit isn't much fun, though it's better than nothing I guess. Played a session up at the Yavapai Casino when I was visiting the area a few weeks back, small cardroom and only one table running. Not much action.

I'll be in the area permanently in a month, was hoping there were some good games to be found rather than having to trek all the way to Vegas or LA.

I am asking the locals--been here for awhile now, have played at Bucky's a few times but generally not impressed. Pretty small cardroom. I'd like to get into a regular home game but really haven't seen any opportunities. I'm sure it'll come along eventually, just have to meet more people. Hard to do over a bad winter and with the warmer weather upon us I have a lot to do around the house, not so much time to get out and about asking about poker. Figure I'll find some good people that like to play when the opportunity arises.

Checked with local PD, as long as the "house" is not charging a fee then it's not illegal at all. Just some people getting together to throw some cards, buyins go directly to prize pool with no rake or fees for running the game.

The illegality comes from charging people to play--can't do that unless you're licensed.

Home games are fine, biggest issue PD tells me about is noise level, so as long as it's within acceptable decibals, it's all good.

I'm going to go this week to check out these places that have games with a buy in but give gift cert. or whatever. Looking to maybe start a little business running tournaments for charities and private events. Need to know what the local laws are. If anyone has any input would appreciate it.

You might talk to these people and get some ideas. This is the league I play in. BEST POKER LEAGUE! BEST POKER PRIZES! BEST POKER PLAYERS! :: Go All In Oregon | Oregon's Largest Texas Hold'em Poker Circuit They are in Oregon, but she has years of experience running the kind of game you are talking about. Be aware it takes hard work and dedication or you will fail.

We had a fun time playing poker at our friend's house in California. $5 buy in, potluck, dealer chooses what kind of poker to play. It was one Thursday night a month. The same group of friends got together for other things like bingo, bunco, movies, book club. We really miss that social life. If anyone in Prescott has a small poker group we would be interested.
