Any estimate as to what it costs to add a water softener system for the whole house, and what the monthly charges are?

Thank you

Years ago I bought a water softener that used salt from sears. They installed it and took care of the city permit. Or you can try calling around I'm sure most plumbing companies can give you a quote. Or did you want a system like Culligan?

I was at Lowe's and asked the young man If I could install a water softener and what the cost would be. Since my house was not built with a loop, the water that comes out of my water faucets would be soft water and I know my grass would die. I believe he quoted me for a water softener and install around $1800. I do not know what it would cost to lease one.

Probably because nobody here installs water softeners for a living.

I know I don't.

And if I wanted to know what one cost I would call up installers instead of trolling strangers on the internet.

"trolling strangers" ???? It's an honest question from people who move here and would like to have honest answers as to what people have paid for a water softener.

Not sure what kind of water softener we would need in Prescott or Prescott Valley. We really only wanted to add one to save the pipes from build up, or at least that's what we heard?

Unless you are a fan of soft water or you are moving to a property with a well, then you likely do not need a water softener. The water here is medium hardness. If you characterize water hardness in terms of clothing sizes (xs, sm, med, lg, xl, xxl), then we are small to medium.

That report states "moderately hard" which to me means you need a water softener. Maybe not to you. But I just got a new toilet in the MB room and it already has a ring in the bowl. Also my new faucets are getting spots all the time. Instead of small to medium, I would say large. LOL

I was playing with the semantics of labeling. The official hardness chart lists soft water as 'Slightly Hard', which seems silly to me. That is like going to McDonalds and ordering a 'slightly big' soft drink.
