Took a beautiful afternoon trip to Prescott today and grabbed the cameras.
These were taken using a combination of a pocket-sized Canon SD850 and Canon 1Ds using both a 17-40mm and 75-200mm lens.

Prescott is a small city of 41,518 founded in 1863 and the original Arizona Territory capital. It's roughly 100 miles north of downtown Phoenix, but being that I'm on the north end of town...it's only 80 miles and a fairly short 1:15 driving time. The city has a great historic downtown with a central park that is the gathering and cultural center surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants, and businesses.

Very nice, HX. Prescott looks like a nice place. I love the vagabond-looking guy with the big laptop computer.

Yea, I got a kick out of that. He was eating something one minute...I was thinking "poor homeless guy"...then he takes out a laptop from the backpack and plugs it into an outlet next to the tree.

...at least he's got his priorities straight, right?

Default a question for Gretchen

I've known this for a long time, but haven't really heard it from Prescott residents. Is it true?

When out-of-towners visit, you'll often hear people explaining the proper pronunciation of "Prescott" as, "'Preskit' rhymes with 'Biscuit'."

Hey, whoever moves out there, don't start out by offending the Biscuits!

Hey, the only way to offend me is to tell me I look like a Biscuit!

The "proper" Prescott pronounciation thing is so funny. When we moved here 6 years ago, I had to really concencrate on saying "Preskitt", and it just sounded so strange. Now, I'm used to it, and "PresKOT" sounds weird when you hear it.

In truth, though, I've got a couple of friends that are 2nd and 3rd generation here and a couple of them pronounce it "PresKOT", and they're the cowboy type that you would think would for sure use "Preskitt".

I would guess you'll hear about 95% of Precottonians use "Preskitt".

PS to my last post: Great pictures, HX Guy!!! You should post a couple of them on the main Preskitt page of the C-D website. You've inspired me - great Prescott tri-city area photo op today so I think I'll get out my camera and take some Spring pix. We had rain yesterday AND NO WIND today!!!
