Yeah, lots of UT, A&M, LSU, OU, OSU, Texas Tech alumni here...and many more! And even people who haven't been to those schools often become rabid fans of the college teams (which I found strange, but pleasant).
I am not a University of Florida alum but I've followed Gator sports since 1990. I take Gator athletics very seriously and I live about 150 miles south of Gainesville. Even though USF is surging down here in Tampa there still are MANY Gator fans all over the place. Seminoles seem to be outnumbered in central Florida.
Hard to imagine LSU alumi relocating to Texas and talking crap! That's nothing like how I used to brag about UF when I lived in Michigan. Folk up there couldn't say anything! Especially since the Spartans and Wolverines, and Broncos haven't been relevant in decades. It was a good feeling.
Seattle; Yea they got the hawks but they're young and generally have stunk. While UW has been GREAT in the past.
I would say that the Seahawks probably have a slight edge over the Huskies. Am not a huge supporter of either, however (one of the few Tennessee Vols fans - and alumns - up here in Seattle), but that's my guess on which is bigger here. But it's really close, as both teams have tons of fans.
It's crazy how big Knoxville is into college football (and the rest of the SEC towns obviously). Nobody pays any attention whatsoever to the Titans or the Braves or anybody like that (well, other than the Colts - and Peyton - coming down to Nashville for his annual game with the Titans). It's all Vols all the time.
When I lived in San Diego it was definitely NFL dominated, but then again the Chargers are usually pretty good while the Aztecs' football history is pretty sad. The Bay Area is also much, much more NFL-oriented.
Overall, college football teams get an incredible amount of support, oftentimes even out-drawing NFL teams within the same state (Gators over the NFL teams in Florida, UGA over the Falcons, UM and MSU over the Lions, Penn State over the Eagles/Steelers, etc.). It's just that the TV ratings for NFL games are much higher. But the game-day attendances in college blow away the NFL nation-wide.

So, they didn't talk trash when the Wolverines beat the Gators in the 2008 Capital One Bowl, 42-35?
Chicago is weird with college sports, I don't know if there is there is any majority fanbase here. UofIll fans are strong here, but pale in comparison to the pro sport teams. When the Illini went to the finals 5 years ago (Bball) the city really got behind them, and same thing to a lesser extent when the Illini had the rose bowl fall into their lap a few years ago. If NW would be relevant, in anything, more often, maybe I would see more wildcat support.
NFL, Bears are obviously king, but their is an annoying amount of packer fans here.
Edge to the AZ Cardinals over the Sun Devils in the Valley of the Sun. Only in the last few years though. Weird here because a lot of folks are from out of state.....so we get a 'lil bit of everything.
I'm from Michigan originally (see out of state above), and it gets tricky there. The Detroit area is fairly balanced with the U of M and the Lions.
As you get farther north in MI, you'll see a lot more MSU Spartan flags flying....we're talkin' northern lower peninsula here....
Here in Jersey we are home to two NFL teams - the Giants rule the roost and the Jets have the next biggest following in North Jersey. In South Jersey they are all about the Philly Eagles. There are also large contingents of fans for the Steelers, Cowboys, Dolphins.
In College Football, Rutgers rules NJ. You can tell by the ubiquitous red Block R decals and magnets on people's cars. It used to be big on Penn State and Syracuse, as well as Notre Dame and BC, but since Rutgers resurgence people are going with the home team much more. Those others still have their fanbases here, but much smaller than ever before, and you hardly see the decals/stickers/etc. for those schools anymore. There is also a somewhat sizeable Army fanbase, especially in Northern NJ, because West Point is very close.
But Rutgers has taken their rightful place as THE college football team for the state.
In NYC, pro sports rule, but on the college side Syracuse has a good following here. Whenever the Cuse plays basketball in the Garden it is always packed with Orange, they will bring more fans to the game than St. Johns and bring a great number of fans to Rutgers and Seton Hall in just next door in NJ. Syracuse football reached the depths of the abyss from '05-'08 and is trying to climb back out, so we are playing 3 big games in the Meadowlands over the next couple years. (Penn State, Notre Dame, and USC)
In fact, the Empire state building shined orange and blue the night of the Syracuse vs. UNC basketball game last November

I too am a Gator Fan , but oddly enough Michigan and Florida have only met twice and MI has won both of them, one of the few teams if not the only one that can say the Gators have never beat them.
