Notes

All four teams in the NFC East are located in top-10 DMAs. Conversely, the AFC North has no teams located in top-10 DMAs.

Aside from the NFC East, the AFC East is the only division with more than one team located in a top-10 DMA.

The NFC North has both the smallest DMA and the largest single-team DMA in the NFL.

The average NFC DMA ranking is 16.81, compared to 23.07 in the AFC. The median NFC DMA is 11.5, compared to 24.0 in the AFC.

i wonder how they calculate this? it looks pretty crude, like they only consider the "market size" to be the size of a team's home city, rather than considering any nuances like the size of the overall fanbase, or the number of teams in a city, or the local interest in football.

for example, do they factor Milwaukee into Green Bay's DMA?

Interesting point, I think GB would always be near the bottom even with others included, Madison or Milwaukee.

I wouldn't say its a 50/50 split, but I am sure the Bears cut into a share of the Milwaukee fan base. Even if its only 10% that would be pretty significant. I imagine the Vikings fan base probably bleeds into western WI as well, maybe not all the way to Madison though...

Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Madison are all in seperate DMA's. Milwaukee's rank is 35, Green Bay 70, and Madison 85. The Packers do get strong fan support from both of these other DMA's. I know Milwaukee always has really high ratings for Packers games in their market.

DMA rankings for those cities are: Charlotte is 24, Rahleigh is 26, Greensboro-H. Point-W. Salem is 46, Columbia is 79, and Charleston is 97.

KC is bigger than Indy, Nashville, Charlotte and now Cleveland I think. Is that list by population?

People ask why the NFC East is so talked about in the media even if one team is good and the other three are bad. This is probably the reason.
