Lots of folks will not watch football during the spring but the NFL is such a HOT item right now that LOTS of folks will. That's why you see ESPN televising the NFL draft during 2 nights of PRIME TIME because fans are Starving for NFL.. they would watch almost anything NFL.. those same fans will not necessarily translate into USFL fans but some will and the new league is hoping a lot will.
They will use NFL wannabes and will give the NFL access to their players... plus they will REMAIN in the spring..
That should certainly be interesting. So the NFL will have access to USFL players...meaning that anyone who wants to will have the opportunity to play a 30-game season? I wouldn't give odds on too many people being able to manage that. Nor would I be very interested to watch a lot of competition involving players who were trying to accomplish such a feat.
I think the only professional football league that has a chance of surviving would be an alternate league for players who wash out of the college ranks or NFL due to drugs or academics ect. Make it somewhat of a "2nd chance league" with the agreement that the players are trying to make it to the NFL. You might even get some subsidizing money from the NFL for such a venture.
Play the games on Saturday's and compete with NCAA. There are many of us out there who don't go in for the "rah, rah, rah" of college football and resent that corrupted cesspool BCS garbage. If it gains enough popularity, you may even see high school players choose that league over college if they don't like going to class and if they want a quicker road to the NFL riches.
Make it a solid league with NFL rules. Train the players to play the game at the NFL level. Have playoffs and a Superbowl.

Agreed; the NFL is the only major sports league without a sanctioned developmental league; this would be a perfect stopover for borderline players to transition to the exponentially faster speed of the big league.
I thought the UFL had a niche they could fill as a secondary league, however they had bad leadership and hemorrhaged money. Perhaps the new USFL can survive and prosper in that role.
Other than not being in Europe, what is going to make this better than NFL Europe?

Isn't 'NOT BEING IN EUROPE' enough?
NFL Europe was too far removed from the US Audience and lets face it, 95% of NFL fans come from the US..
