... who thought games did not end in a tie.

Some 49ers, Rams players had no idea game could end in tie

"I never heard of a tie in football," 49ers safety Dashon Goldson told CSNBayArea.com. "Where's everybody going? Did somebody quit? Forfeit?"

...In that Eagles-Bengals game from 2008, a lot of criticism was heaped on Donovan McNabb, the Philadelphia quarterback who said he thought the game was going to keep going until someone scored. Now, McNabb isn't alone in his ignorance of the rules.

"I thought we were going to keep playing,'' Rams receiver Danny Amendola told Sports Illustrated.

Seems like a double standard to me. McNabb was lambasted for not knowing the rules but these guys are just merely products of the culture..

But McNabb is a QB... knowing the rules just comes with that position.

Not saying these players get a pass... they are still idiots too. But McNabb is a bigger idiot.

My 9 year old son actually corrected me on this rule about 2 weeks ago when a game went into overtime. He told me that games that now end with a TD or a safety, but not a field goal. I was under the impression that if team A scored a TD in overtime, that team B would get a chance to respond.

By the way, the Rams really should have won that game. They outplayed the 49ers throughout. To not have 7 men lined up on the Amendola bomb play in OT is inconceivable.

It's actually called being held to a higher standard. There's a difference.

I prefer to have an intelligent person as my QB. I guarantee Drew Brees, Payton Manning, or Tom Brady know the rules.

Maybe if McNabb had been held to a higher standard he could delivered a SB to Philly.

Probably because it doesn't happen that often. Before Sunday the last tie was in 2008.
