Exactly correct. I have met exactly "1" genuine Steeler fan in my life. A guy who hails from Monroeville, Pa.
I have met exactly "none" Steeler fans who have ANY knowledge of that franchise prior to 1972. We're talking 40 years here.
The "Steeler Nation" is nothing by a huge collection of front-runners.

I've been a fan since the 50s, as well as my brother and friends of mine from that era. We loved Bobby Layne, John Henry Johnson, Brady Keys, John Baker, Ernie Stautner, the Saul brothers, and on and on. There are a lot more folks like me...
There are plenty of fans in their late 50s and older that followed the team before they went on their run. As a matter of fact, what they did shocked as us much as anyone.
So, I say your statement is wrong... Only 1... right There are many of us older (55+) that suffered with the Steelers before they became champions. And I think we are part of the Steeler nation.
Okay, I know I'm going to get a lot of razzing and hate on this but I love the Dallas Cowboys. Always have been a fan of their since I was a baby (as long as I can remember). My father always watched a Dallas Cowboys game every time they were on.
But I still love Roger Staubach (even though he's from the 70's and long retired), but he's still my #1 favorite player of all-time.
I'm a Steeler fan, but I liked the old Cowboys.... Bob Hayes, Don Meredith... you understand when I'm talking about.
But, after they were declared 'America's team', I said to myself, BS... they aren't my team!
I've rooted against them ever since.
