I am, and 10 percent of the population being "gay" is a far over reach. Now if you want to include those that would be classified as bi-sexual, bi-curious, or questioning who really knows?

John, I know you are a Phila sports fan. Did you ever read or hear about an article that was published in Phila Magazine back near the end of 2011? The writer used the 10 percent figure which I think is very high but there was mention of a former Philly player.

In fact, a recent Phillies player, a renowned womanizer, has been rumored to be quite interested in men. There are whispers in gay circles about him picking up men at Knock, a bar on Washington Square West, and taking them back to his condo. Phillies insiders still murmur about his bisexuality.

I know who the referenced player was, although I am not going to reveal. It is was not the most suspected "Pat Burrell". It was however a member of the 2008 World Champs.

Even if the number is 5%, that means that on a 53 man football team, that there are about THREE gay players. So then by the numbers, there should be about 2 or 3 gay players on the current Eagles squad - and EVERY NFL team.
If gay players helped the Phillies win the World Series in '08, then more power to them. I'd rather have a 22 year old gay player on this year's team than the old farts that they have now - a team that will be lucky to finish at .500.

Today is the day when we find out if an NFL team is going to draft an openly gay player.

I don't care if he gets drafted or not.

Just so my team ( Minnesota Vikings) don't draft him.

The Vikings already got way too much media coverage due to a below average punter wanting media coverage for his views on gay marriage.

(Then complaining that his gay marriage views were what got him cut when it actually was his sub par punting )

He'll be drafted probably in the 6-7th round, and he'll get a bunch of pity interviews.
Chances are he will not see much of the field, he'll be used as a sideshow/novelty act, cause he really isn't that good.

That's one thing he has in common with the gay basketball player. Really aren't good players, but they sure do bring in the media/money for the teams.

Pity interviews? It would be breaking the ice, so that star closeted gay athlete will soon see there is no reason to remain in the closet.

seems like his team mate on the Missouri defensive line already got drafted a ways back.

( and he didn't even crave media attention like Michael Sam did )

He had a bad combine, he's not really anything special. A typical late round/potentially undrafted free agent would obviously not get this amount of media attention.

But since he chose to tell the world that he's sexually attracted to other men., The media, and the gay community are flocking to him... It's really that simple.
He will most likely be a pity pick probably to one of the New York teams.

He will be good for Jersey Sales, and Commercials.
