There are some reporters and ex-players that think this is also indicative of a lack of leadership on Geno Smith's part and a lack of respect for him in the locker room. They basically pointed out that if Geno had been a respected QB with leadership qualities (Manning, Brady, Brees, etc.), then this likely would have never escalated to that degree.

Geno is still a young guy.
He should not be leader until he knows how to play the game.
The other guy should handle the problem better than he did.
Leave it to the Jets to "one-up" the Patriots with embarrassing news stories. Just because Rex Ryan is gone doesn't mean the circus left with him.... this team is still filled with a bunch of clowns to provide entertainment. Unfortunately that entertainment is reserved for off the field incidents.......
My thought on this is the other players. In the locker room, were they alone, where were other players? To me, more telling than a disagreement between two players is it happening inside the facility and no other players stepped up? No one could tell this was escalating?
I might be naïve but I can't imagine this happening with many other franchises, not just the one I follow.
I'm not excusing the guy who punched him, I just feel the old line, it takes two to tango, applies here. No one wants someone pointing or jabbing their finger in their face but a little less power behind the punch might have been in order!
I bet Rex Ryan was sitting somewhere laughing when he heard this. He is probably happy he is out of the team with a terrible owner and pathetic FO (although Mike Mac may do good as GM) to Buffalo a team with a new dedicated owner and FO
