Here's one that's totally out of the box thinking.

Two footballs in play... at each 30 yard line.

Home team offense against visiting team defense on one end.

Visiting team offense against home team defense at the other end.

No clock.

Whoever scores a TD first wins.

might be an idea, since it would put field goal kickers like janikowski at a premium

I like college's overtime rule where each team gets at least one chance to score by placing the ball at the 20 yard line of your opponent's side of the field.

Purists would never go for it... settle it on the field.

I am trying to imagine Chargers, Dolphins in the 80s... players are all spent and tired, fighting it out for 75 minutes... and it comes down to Rolf Benirschke versus Uwe von Schamann.

Ties are one of the worst thing in sports. You play to win the game (thanks Herm Edwards) so there needs to be a winner. I like the sport of soccer but it's annoying you will have guys running around for 90 plus minutes only to walk away with a tie that happens on a fairly regular basis.

Anyways, if they were to change the rules I like college style. Trimming the field down means less strain o the guys and more excitement for us fans.

Plus I live the idea in overtime that replays are only reviewed upstairs and not frrom coaches challenges.

I like college's OT system, it doesn't have the players on the field as long and less a risk of injury than having a potential 15 min OT period. I think for football, there must be a winner and ties should not exist.

I agree. Ties are anticlimactic and are not in the spirit of a competitive contest.

For example, baseball games are allowed to go on indefinitely -- so that there is a winner. I believe the record was 33 innings (8-plus hours)!

I'll go for that idea !

It would be similar to pole vaulting or high jumping in track.
