Foles is still probably gone in 2019, because the Eagles aren't going to pay a backup QB $20M for one season while they're going to be pretty tight with the salary cap again next year. Eagles are paying him $9M right now for two games. The Eagles went 1-1. Was it worth it? I don't think so.
I don't have the time right now to go search for it, but you said in another post they didn't have the cap space to keep Foles. However, they did keep him, and NOT just for two games. They want to see how durable Wentz is, especially with the knee injury. It wasn't just for "two games", but to evaluate Wentz's health, and ability to STAY healthy the ENTIRE season.

They didn't have the cap space, that was actually true. They had a few of their stars to restructure their contracts in order to free up space for Foles. Essentially, they're pushing their salary cap issues off to a future date. Now, what I meant by paying Foles for two games, is this: It was likely that the Eagles would just need him for the first game or two of the season, and then they'd sit him and start Wentz.

Yes, Foles is getting a lot of money for being a back up, but the Eagles know Wentz is injury prone, and want to get a comfort level Wentz can complete a season before trading Foles. He will most likely be gone next year if Wentz stays healthy. At this point the Eagles have other problems, like their Secondary.

This was my point. Had the Eagles traded Foles in the offseason, they probably would've gotten enough compensation to have filled areas in need. It sounds like the Eagles are struggling with protection and defense. If this continues to be the case, Wentz is going to get hurt again. Now, you could say, "Well, that's why we paid Foles to stay with the team", but you have to look at the greater good. Suppose the compensation you got from a big Foles trade in the offseason went toward depth on the offensive line, and maybe help in the secondary? Even if you had to take it on the chin, start Sudfeld the first two games and start off 0-2, you still have a solid team, with Wentz back at QB, and maybe you wind up 2-2 at this point anyway.
The reason why I would've went this route is simply that you're addressing issues now, but you're also making sure you don't have those issues in the future. You're also making it a little easier to deal with the loom salary cap issues that's going to hit in the near future. There is a very fine line that seems to be present. The Eagles could get things together and turn out to be the team they were last year. Or, they could miss the playoffs. Would you rather the Eagles miss the playoffs this year, but have players that will provide them future depth and get them back into the winner's circle next year, or possibly miss the playoffs, possibly get Wentz hurt again, lose Foles anyway next year, and then maybe having to cut stars to get under the cap? That could lead to a rebuild.

If I'm not mistaken, Foles is a free agent after this year.
Not according to his new contract; he's under contract for 2019, but both the team and Foles has an out if they want to opt out for 2019, but no, he's technically NOT a free agent next year - yet.
Week 5 - All 5 NFC East teams lost.
Jay Ajayi is finished for the year for the Eagles - and very possibly for his Eagles career.
If they are ever going to turn this season around it HAS TO start on Thursday. If not, then they could be in serious jeopardy.
