I don't recall ever seeing Gabbert play, but I did a Google search on worst QBs in NFL history and he was on that list as No. 47. Ryan Leaf and Jamarcus Russell were 1 and 2.
Kaepernick's performance, his inability to read defenses, throw accurate passes, evade the rush, do better in compensating for lack of protection, and so forth, could not be allowed to continue. Something needed to be done and I'm glad he was benched. I don't have high expectations for Gabbert, but this is an opportunity for him, so I hope he does well. He can't possibly do any worse than Kap.
I like coach Tomsula. He's from Pittsburgh. He's a straight-shooter, a straight-talker, a man of great substance and depth. He too is learning, but it is going to be a long time, maybe many seasons before this team begins to get back to relevance. Benching Kap is a good start.
Didn't Gabbert get released from Jacksonville?? That should tell you all you need to know about him. I'd take Geno Smith ANY day of the week and twice on Sunday's over Gabbert and Geno is freaking incompetent on the field!
I wouldn't be surprised if Gabbert has improved some. Not saying he will be good but I would't be surprised to see he is Geno Smith/EJ Manuel level of competent.

I'm not optimistic about Gabbert but the Niners don't have any choice IMO. Kapernick was living off an extremely talented team in prior years and now where he has to make plays he just can't do it. Time to end the Kapernick experiment.
Having to watch kaepernick kissing his bicep every time he managed to do something good in years past, make me thrill to see his downfall. He was a conceded jerk, so watching him get his weekly dose of humble pie is quite rewarding.
Telling when your last hope for salvation is Blaine Gabbert. I still cannot figure out how the Vikings lost to the 49ers in Week 1 especially given that the Vikings have played well since then.
Rumors were circulating that Philly was possibly interested in Capernicus.

Please Niners, keep him!
