That’s not a misprint. The Bears actually did that today.
Benny Cunningham was ruled short of the goal line. Bears coach John Fox challenged the pylon play for a touchdown only to have the ball given to the Packers after review.
Only the Bears could “win” a challenge and lose possession... or maybe the Browns.
Not because of what happened but because of the situation. The ruling was that Cunningham was out of bounds at the 2 yard line. The Bears got a first down on the play. First and goal from the 2? The overwhelming majority of the time, that results in a touchdown. The Packers rank in the bottom third of tje league in overall defense, pass defense, and rush defense. You only get two challenges per half, and if you lose a challenge you lose a timeout.
Bottom line? Even without the possibility that the replay officials will find something that costs you possession, the decision to challenge was stupid. The possible benefits simply didn't warrant the possible costs.
There is no excuse for a coach making millions of dollars a year to be so clueless. None.

And since they challenged it because they thought they crossed the goal line but because he fumbled the ball they overturned the call and called it a fumble and recovery by the Packers.
This play underscores the importance of HOLDING ONTO the football near the goal line.
