It seemed like over three months ago, the Cleveland Browns were the darlings of the NFL. Now, it seems like they've become the most polarizing team in the NFL. I know the Browns have to prove it on the field, but it seems like the sports "analysts" are making their Browns predictions based on their own personal biases. Whether it's taking shots at Baker or OBJ, or just taking shots at the city of Cleveland in general. So, why are the Browns becoming such a polarizing team? Is it because of Mayfield? Is it because of OBJ? Is because of the hype? Or, is it just because it's the Cleveland Browns?
A lot of hype and some pretty high expectations for this team given the "star power" on the roster. On paper they look great, but lets see how that translates on the field. I for one am rooting for the Browns to do well. Same with the Lions and Bills (my favorite team). Guess I have a soft spot for the rust belt teams.

Agree on all points. Also, I think Baker Mayfield and OBJ polarize a lot of fans; it's either you love them or hate them. No in-between whatsoever.

Not sure why some are miffed about Mayfield. He chugs a beer and he's Johnny Football 2.0 but Rodgers chugs a beer, poorly, and no one cares. His comments about Daniel Jones was overblown. He stated his immediate thoughts on that moment and it was exactly what everyone outside the Giants war room was thinking.
I've been a Browns fan all of my life. Not seeing this "polarizing" thing you mention, but there are many naysayers who don't believe that the Browns can put together a winning season. The Browns have been bad for so long I guess is the reasoning. Many teams have turned themselves around much like the Browns are doing.
If the Browns show their true potential and look like they have a playoff run coming, we will see a lot more fans jump on the Browns Train. Many commentators are already giving the Browns the "The New America's Team Label".
Expectations for the Browns are sky high. They have the talent to meet those expectations. It should be a fun ride this season.
I don’t see them as polarizing so much as hyped for the first time since they resumed playing in Cleveland. They have a roster that is capable of contending for the playoffs, but it’s also a new HC and the youngest roster in the league. Plus they compete with one of the most well run teams in professional sports in the Steelers. The Browns have potential but they also could combust with some of the personalities they have there. If they don’t get off to a solid or better start it could get ugly in Cleveland.
I think they can get to 10-6 and reach the playoffs though. That would be exciting to see, even though I’m not a Browns fan.
Lots of hype so that you'll watch all the advertising.
I'll agree with that. Colin Coward picked a fight with Baker Mayfield over the summer. It was all click bait stuff.
Outside our division, I don't really understand the hate for the Browns. Almost every team in the NFL has won or been to the SuperBowl except the Browns. Only 4 teams, 2 legacy teams and two expansion teams haven't made it.
If Detroit made it to the SB, I would be happy for the team and fans - not hate on them for being successful.
What would be super cool is a DET vs CLE SuperBowl. Imagine the hype then. Be like the Cubs/Indians WS a few years ago.
The Browns have sucked for so long, why wouldn't the prospect of having a young gun potentially solid NFL QB in Mayfield, getting OBJ, and coming off an 7-8-1 season not make them polarizing? They are a historical franchise (despite moving around), and I think any team that sucks for a long time finally looking like they're turning things around becomes polarizing. But as others have said, right now it's more hype than polarizing.
I was kind of meh until the Baker Mayfield comments in relation to Daniel Jones. As a Giants fan, I was kind of tired of OBJ continuing to reference the Giants all the time. I get it. You're ticked. Time to move on (Strange, I dont recall Oliver Vernon saying a thing). But Mayfield had no reason to say anything.
At that point, I was officially tired of them.
