First, I am glad to see the NFL back in full swing, sort of, with preseason and league mandated Covid Protocols in place. The most important thing to me right now is people's health.

This year has been like a litter box here at the Cat's house. With Covid hospitalizations (pneumonia), the mom fighting cancer, the relatives trying to IRK each other off, the brutal hot summer.....In spite of it all, those who know me point out that I am the best at making good of any bad situation, and keeping up a positive outlook, even sometimes to the point of being entertained by things like football.... I am reminded of the poem, the Optimist (author unknown)

THE OPTIMIST fell ten stories.
At each window bar
He shouted to his friends:
" All right so far. "

I certainly, like many others, need football, that escape, that entertainment, that chance to enjoy something from beginning to end, to play fantasy games, make picks weekly, read reviews and watch commentary shows. Although the best reviews are often the one's here.

And I get great entertainment from making my NFL picks on here, and I think some get entertainment in one way or another reading them, whether right on or not

And seriously, I have a pretty Good Life. I enjoy life, family, friends, football, travels....Things may not be perfect, but they could always be worse. And I like to move on with the good things in life.

I have been pretty accurate with a few exceptions....I did not see the Eagles or Buccaneers winning Super Bowls, but I did peg the Chiefs, the Patriots and Seahawks on occasion. I also picked the Pesky red birds to make the Super Bowl although that pick was a year too early, same with the Saints....right team, next season....

I have been looking at several trends, commentaries, injuries (which I abhor and wish were not part of the game) and schedules. I have reviewed Vegas Odds, which are not an accurate pick of who will win, but rather an actuarial formula of how bettors will best lose money to the bookies and casinos. Vegas odds take into consideration not how many games a team will actually win, but what number given will generate the most interest and revenue for the sports books.

All this into consideration, and some weeks a coin toss is just as good. Baseball and even Basketball have computerized statistical analytics. We can see how likely a player is to go 1 for 3 as a right hander against a left handed pitcher at night. We can see how many points a player generates by being present on the court. But in football, that is a little more difficult in an overall game situation. A player will not be in for every play. A player may get taken out due to injury, a player having an off day will be noted for a mismatch by an alert opposing coach. Metrics in football is much more complicated.

That being said, I started by cutting out tabs of all the teams, arranging them in last year's order of finish, then looking at coaching changes, draft picks, free agents, etc. as well as chronic injuries, weaknesses, and roster strength. I tried to consider bye weeks, strength of schedule, which is based mostly off of last years finishes, and fall little into this years stats. however, numbers of conference road games near end of season, bye weeks, and of course, weather are factors to consider. If the Pesky Red Birds are playing in the Snows of New York in December, for example, that is something to consider. I then rearranged them, picking the teams that I think will be best in this season.

And, as always, I have endeavored to make the post entertaining. Above all else, this is Entertainment. I do not work for any team, I have no ownership interest in any franchise and my writings do not (yet) generate income. So having fun on this forum always comes first.

That being said, let's look at the Predictions for the AFC in 2021

AFC East. There is a huge consensus that Bill's Buffaloes are going to waltz back to the AFC Championship game. Never mind the fact that teams who lose the AFC Championship have numerous problems the nest year. They do have the best roster, on paper, BUT The receivers are getting a little older, there are questions on the depth of the O-Line and two coaches (Belichick and Flores) have had an offseason to figure out how to beat them. The Evil Patriots are going to be a much improved team over last season, with a number of key players returning after opting out of last years games. Flores has learned well, he has quietly built a team of players who weekly hone and sharpen their skills to compete at the top levels of the game. Then there are the Jets, who finally sent Gase back to coaching High School and drafted their 6th franchise QB in the past 5 seasons. But they are still the Jets and will somehow find a way to be a Hot Mess.

1 BILL's BUFFALOES 11-6 IF the records stay the same, and the tie breaker comes down to the September Heat in Miami vs the Mild NY weather at Halloween, we will see a Tie for First Place. And if MY FINZ take both games, then they take the Tiebreaker into the playoffs. Either way, before the Buffaloes shuffle-uffle-uffle off to the playoffs, they have to know that Allen, the real deal, will have slightly older and slightly less deep WR than last year, and less OL Depth. Also, QB's that stand out attract more attention, as teams look for ways to stop them. And that the top 3 teams in this division are not slouches. Still, this is a well stocked, well coached and well rostered team, built around the skill set of the QB and able to hang with anyone.
Make Super Bowl Plans If : They can find a way to win on the road and not fall into the trap that most AFC Championship Losers find, of falling apart after the conference final the year before.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: My Finz mature on schedule and Allen's receivers do not step up.

2 MY FINZ 11-6 I know, I know, you may be saying that I am just saying this because they are my favorite team, but consider this: The Offensive line, the most Under-rated, plays to the highest caliber under Flores. The QB has two elite weapons and will have a third after suspension time, and a RB by Committee will keep fresh plyers (next man up) in the rotation. On the Defensive side, we may be seeing a "no name" defense with the backfield to shut down Allen and Newton, as well as a front 4 to control the tempo. This is a very young team, well coached and set for the long run.
Make Postseason Plans if: Tua takes advantage of his weapons to spread the field and the defense sets the tempo, allowing the early draft picks of the past few years to shine.
It's Going to be a long season if: Tua goes down or fails to mature

3 NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS 9-8 Let's face the facts: Bill Belichick, or Belicheat as he is called) has a Losing Record without Tom Brady at QB. Look it up. 61 and 72. The great Genius coach, the future HOF, the Football Prodigy, the Cheater, is under .500 without Brady. This year, he has no Brady, a lackluster Cam and an untested rookie. And Playoffs are a stretch, a big stretch in this division. The Patriot's will need to find new and innovative ways to win this season. Without getting caught. Still, the team will be improved over last years. The players who sat out last year, have a chance to shake the ring rust off and get back in the game (we will see how that works) The team has a harder schedule than the Buffaloes or the Finz.
MAKE SUPER BOW PLANS IF: Belichick finds his magical combination on the field, winning games on Tuesday through Saturdays.
It's going to be a long season if: The reality of NFL is too much for the rookie QB and Cam keeps being Cam.

4 NEW YORK JETS 5-12 Let's Face it, the JETS are a Cursed Franchise. Obviously. Listen to the Fans...they curse them out more than anyone. SO the team has a new coach, new QB and no more googly eyed Gase . The team has some talented players. The problem is, with a new system, and many of these guys having not played together before, under a new coach, under a total clusterflock of a management system, no long term plan, and sometimes, it would appear, no short term one either...this team will not compete against the talented conference Rivals. And these are the JETS...Enough Said
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: You are talking about chartering a bus and giving each player a ticket
IT'S GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: it is anything like the Lines at LaGuardia, or like the odds Vegas puts on the team.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

AFC NORTH
This is an interesting division because on one hand, the Steelers have the Hardest schedule, for what it is worth, while the Bengals are in the running for "Worse run franchise" for what....5 seasons in a row?
It has been like....what 6 seasons wince they finished first? And Hue Jackman and Marv Lewis were coaching, both now at Arizona State last I checked... So what will this division bring? Excitement. I look forward to seeing Harris open up the Steelers offense with the run game. I think the Browns are ready to make the first place leap. And I think the Ravens will be in the payoffs too.

1 CLEVELAND BROWNS 12-5 There was a recent Episode of the Low Budget cable TV series "Dark Side of Football" talking about how Bad the Brownies are. How they always seem to fail at every turn. I have said all along that a team must be run like a business, commodities (players) bought and sold, Business plans (game plans) have to be written and rewritten and above all else, LONG TERM GOALS Must be identified and achieved. Most teams fail to even MAKE long term plans. The Browns have finally figured out how to load a talented roster, stick with it, and this year they should have the talent and leadership to go the distance. Baker Mayfield has found his groove , the defense is maturing and the team has so much talent that it would be on the coaches if the team does not win the division.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: The team continues on track to improve and excel as they have so far.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: The BROWNS revert to being the BROWNS in some way and find a way to throw this chance away. IF So, Moses Cleveland will be turning over in his grave. Again.

2 BALTIMORE RAVENS 11-6 This is still a solid team, good coaching, good roster and plenty of ways to win. And at least a few fans and front office people itching for that to happen The roster should be more improved, but in the end, free agents rarely add up to homegrown talent. Which gives a slight edge to the Brownies in this division.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF Rookies Batemen and Oweh can start immediately and make a much needed impact in their positions.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: the Steelers and Browns play to their potential

3 PITTSBURGH STEELERS 9-8 I hate to pick Big Ben and Company 3rd, but I am seeing some things here that bother me, and some of it involves a downward spiral of certain players/positions which have not been adequately addressed. ROOKIE RB's can be a boon or Bust, we are hoping Harris is the former because rookie halfbacks often present a style problem for the defense, at least until the opponent figures out HOW to stop them. Having a serious RB will allow Big Ben to open up to his limited receivers, and spread the field a little more than Big Ben's wingspan. Still, this will be a tough season for the Steelers in that division, especially with what is ranked as the HARDEST Schedule and an end of season road trip to Baltimore. a week after hosting the Browns and spending The day after Christmas in Kansas City.
MAKE SUPER PLANS IF: we remember that this is still a good team, Big Ben staill has some leadership and maybe just maybe the cards will fal into place.
IT IS GFOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: The team does not find some serious, and I mean SERIOUS Motivation to the Receivers and the O-Line just cannot stay healthy.

5 CINCINNATI BENGALS Here we go. This team, in case you missed last season's episode, drafted a Heisman Trophy QB with the first pick, then allowed him to sustain a knee injury late in the season, a knee injury that may well impair his ability to play this year. SO Instead of getting some solid Offensive line protection, they god a Free Agent, a second round pick, used the first round pick to get the said QB's friend from LSU and told the Offensive line..."now boys, don't let your Quarterback get hit" Which was inevitable due to the poor planning and lack of foresight this franchise has. And sadly, it may happen again, which sucks for everyone..the players, the fans, the team and especially him ! So DO NOT look for the Stripey Cats to make any great leaps in this division, not with those opponents, but do look ahead to the offensive line talent that will be available with pick number 5 or 6.
I do see Visions of JOE NAMATH in BURROWS...but sadly, the vision is of a great player limited by chronic knee injuries.....SO the team needs to find some serious O-Line help.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: Somehow Burrows wants to go from worst to first, but that will not happen.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: Burrows does not play, or limited because of his injury, or opponents find all those weak chains in the line.

AFC SOUTH.
This has long been my least interested division. Why? Because I have no interest in any team in it. I am sure that they play some exciting ball for the fans, but it is a division I tend to gloss over and games that I do not watch much at the sports bar. Unless MY FINZ are playing . That being said, it is perhaps the EASIEST division to pick.

1 TENNESSEE TITANS 13-4 Remember the Titans have a coach taught by Belichick, only more successful without Brady, and a QB that turned out to be an all-pro talent when he is away from the Lousy Dolphins coaches he used to have. (The O-Line helps too, they DO get the job done) So they are one step away from the Super Bowl. Year before last, they were in the AFC Championship, then they suffered the same "Lost the Championship, drop a few" that teams always suffer in that pattern.
This year, coaching is solid, game plan will be good and everything is in place.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: Tannehill continues to master the offense and Vrabel continues to mix up plays to keep opponents off guard.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: The TITANS do not also win against other division and conference foes (Titans, Buccaneers)

2 INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
9-8 Ah yes, they still have great Uniforms, but the Colts do not have a great shot at the title this year. While they had a VERY BUSY free agency, perhaps the busiest in the league, taking castoffs from other teams while losing too many solid veterans may not add up to wins. While they are against two cellar dwellers in the division they will need 11 wins to make the playoffs and I only se 9 or 10 at best.
Make Super Bowl Plans IF: Wentz is healthy and all the new pieces fall together
It is going to be a long season if: Wentz gets hurt, and there is a good reason that other teams let some of the free agents go.

3JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS 3 14 OK A whole new team, new coach, and we all know how it takes College coaches , even with top talent, some time to get established. Many people are wondering how rookie QB Trevor Lawrence will pan out...will he be the next Peyton Manning? Bigger question should be HOW LONG until Urban Meyer has a nervous breakdown, has chest pain during practice, becomes Overwhelmed by the Florida heat and the NFL Stress? Those are the growing pains...Jimmy Johnson won one game his first year with a Pro Bowl HOF QB. The Spotted Cats will win, eventually, but it will take some time. 3 Wins is an expectation
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: you are talking about the Super Bowl in like 5 years...
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF: Urban Meyer leaves after week 3 due to stress.

HOUSTON TEXICANS 2- 15
The Texans draft their own pick l next year, and likely the first overall. Due to some Terrible (for them) trades (good for MY FINZ) the Texicans have not been able to rebuild a depleted roster that saw the Exit of Fuller and Watt, proven leaders at their position. I won't even get into the Watson scandal .....I'll just point out that this is a very very BAD team.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: 15 other AFC teams fold
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF: ...If Nothing. It is going to be a very long season for the players and fans of this team. And will not be fast enough to get to next springs draft.

AFC WEST
The Chiefs still own this division. Mahommes is still the best of his class, and Andy Reid can still field a winning team. The Distance between the Chiefs and the next 3 teams is far. On the Other End, Broncos have announced Teddy Bridgewater as the starter. A good QB yes, a great one, No, and not enough help on the sidelines and the roster to make him look that good.

1 KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 14-3
Mahommes and Company really make football fun to watch. How can anyone not like these guys? Well, maybe 15 other teams who will watch them in the Super Bowl, again, but hey....Chiefs are the real deal. Still.
Make Super Bowl Plans if: Everything falls into place again.
It will be a long season if: you are a Broncos fan.

2 San Diego/Los Angeles Area Homeless Chargers 10-7 Things are starting to look up for the Bolts. They have their QB but concerns if the Sophomore Slump set in are real. They have a solid roster, not enough depth, but if everyone stays healthy that may not matter. They seem to be doing the right thing, in regards to designing a playbook around the QB's skills. They will challenge soon enough but not just yet.
Make Super Bowl Plans if : The league decides to have both LA teams at home for the big game.
IT's going to be a long season if: The dreaded Sophomore Slump hits the QB

3 LAS VEGAS (OAKLAND)RAIDERS 6-11
Las Vegas has embraced the Raiders (and weed too it seems) Sadly, the game has not embraced Chuckie Gruden who is not building as fast as one had hoped. It may be that he had too many seasons away from the game. Remember, he did build the Raiders but won a Super Bowl with Tony Dungy's Buccaneers. I would have expected more by now, and as an old school classic fan am somewhat disappointed.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: the league is rigged
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF: Some key players find out about Planet 13 and get suspended

4 DENVER BRONCOS 4--13 No, these are not Manning's Broncos. Nor Elway's. Nor Dan Reeve's either. These are Teddy Bridgewater's who have fans hoping that his past shortcomings and injuries are Water Under the Bridge..(I said it) This is a team still not moving anywhere, and does not seem to have a solid plan. But getting a good player with the 5th or 6 pick overall will help.
Make Super Bowl Plans If: Oh never mind
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF : Teddy Bridgewater joins the injured list again.

SO Looking ahead I think the Division Winners will probably be Bill's Buffaloes, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans and Kansas City Chiefs. The Wildcards will be MY FINZ, The Baltimore Ravens and the Homeless Chargers

While The Chargers will be happy to get into the Playoffs, they will fall first to the Browns. The Ravens will take out Bill's Buffaloes, and MY FINZ will play a close game but fall a point short against he Titans.
The Browns and Chiefs will meet in the Red Arrow Stadium, in the AFC Championship, with the Chiefs taking a very close high scoring win into Super Bowl XLVYZ In Los Angeles.

Dang, I had no idea.
It'll be interesting to see how the Pats are this year having a full year post-Brady to improve the team.

Nice write up as usual KingCat.

The AFC East is going to be an exciting division for sure. We will find out a lot right out of the gate to with Miami at New England week 1.

For my Bills, all reports from camp are that the offense and the WR's are humming along in mid-season form already. I was worried Beasley might take a step back in particular but he has really looked good in camp catching everything. I also think he is playing a bit angry to because of the whole vaccine situation he finds himself in and no matter the reason for the anger, I think it is always good if a player can find some extra motivation.

Last week showed that they are extremely deep at the position too. Sitting our top three WR's and still putting up 34 first half points up on the Bears defense with our 4th -6th WR's.

By far the most exciting thing coming out of Bills camp and the early pre-season games though is the appearance of what looks like a legitimate pass rush. The first really good one we potentially have had in years. The first round pick out of Miami, Gregory Rousseau, has been dominant getting QB pressures on nearly every snap he has seen action. Including two sacks in very limited snap counts. The emergence of a real pass rush would be the thing that could really put this team over the top.

As for YOURFINZ, that Waddle kid out of Alabama looks like he is going to be a handful.

Probably ought to tell you something. lol

I'll bet, and I'm not trying to speak for Cat here. My guess would be 5 to 6 wins. Regardless of Burrow's status.

Guess I should look up who they have as a backup.. Oh, dear.

Ok.. 2-3 wins without Burrow.

5-7 with.

That's where I see them. Poor Tee Higgins.

I want to talk now about the NFC

It seems like Everyone and their robotic dogs are picking the Bucs to be back in the Super Bowl. And why not? Ric Flair won the World title at the age of 51 and Hulk Hogan won his last one at the age of 49, so Tom Brady continuing to win in the NFL at 44 is no big deal. Right? Besides, if Roger Goodell has learned anything from Vince McMahon at all it is to keep the league Entertaining.
One point about the Buccaneers: If Brady, or any of the other starters go out to injury, then the backups are in sad shape. Some of the second and third stringers have looked absolutely awful in preseason, and they will be on the team as "also rans" but hope that they are never needed. This is not a Belichick "next man up " team; it is a Brice Arians "chew your butt out for messing up" team.
That being said, there was a time long ago that I pointed out that the JETS may finally have their year, not knowing that Chad Pennington had been hurt the day before. Preseason injuries can wreck a team before the season starts, which is why many teams will not be putting many top tier superstars on the field even this weekend, at least not for more than a few downs.

There are other questions too in the league. Will Aaron Rogers have a solid enough supporting cast to go the distance, and would anyone in that division challenge him?

Can all 4 teams from the NFC West fill the playoff slots? The biggest question for the 49ers is whether or not Jimmy G can stay healthy for 17 games to keep the offense running, or if it is time to hand the team over to a rookie and move on. The Cardinals have quietly built a solid and very talented, very fast team, who will give headaches to opposing defenders with some of the best and fastest Receivers in the game. The Seahawks are looking better than last year, and Pete Carroll is probably the best coach out there when one considers how Belicheck needed Brady to make him look good.

Can anyone in the NFC East make a winning record this time? The Cowboys are already getting injured, the Redskins are thrown together patchwork in some places, the Giants have Jason Garrett coaching, and the Eagles, well, let's say the "Experts" are saying that they will not be all that good this year.

SO looking into the league, there are still a few big questions. Mainly, who will challenge Brady and Co.....and I would like to talk about how this happens. While on one hand I can see Brady retiring after another Super Bowl win, that would put more doubt into some minds as to the legitimacy of the finishes.

---------------------------------

WHAT? YOU THINK FOOTBALL IS FAKE?

No, I don't go that far, but I will say that sometimes the storylines seem too obvious and too contrived to be real. Anyway, it would suck for Brady to leave after game 9 due to an injury, and fans to lose interest as a result. It would suck from my point of view for ANYONE to leave due to an injury, but Oh well.

SO looking First at the NFC EAST (Or as it has been the past couple years, the NFC LEAST)
Riverboat Ron has gambled on another aging star, 60 year Old Ryan Fitzpatrick who has played for more teams than Benedict Arnold, having played now on about 29 of 32. Somehow, Ron is taking a gamble on him, but it looks like Tyler Heineke and Kyle Allen are just not viable NFL QBs. Although the Supporting Cast is decent enough of Offense, and the Coaching can get the job done, the Redskins (who will be changing their name probably to the Washington Federals , next year, and don't try to tell me that Fed-Ex, who already owns the Stadium signs, did not have a few free postage stamps placed on Daniel Snyder's desk to make that happen) Will need some serious output from Chase Young and Montez Sweat as well as hopes that new LB Jamin' Davis can Jam up the middle as well as play the job of Middle Linebacker in Riverboat Ron's system.
The Cowboys are another question. new Defensive coach, new defensive scheme, little to no talent in the defensive backfield, and already, injuries taking a toll. Coupled with some of the surgically repaired players, and it will fall to the coaches to figure out how to write a scheme taking advantage of the talent. Sadly, Massive Mike McCarthy is more of an expert at generating pounds than wins , having eaten his way through another offseason filled with chicken wings, Doritos Dr Pepper and beer. The Cowboys have the best offense in the division, so long as they stay healthy, but no depth on the Offensive line and no help if Dak does not perform.
The NY Giants would be a really good team if they too, could stay healthy, and having a QB who has yet to put up any faith, may keep the team in another losing season. And let's face it, this team has more gaps than an outlet mall.
The Eagles are ALL IN on Jalen Hurts as QB, and just how much so is exhibited by the signing of journeyman Big Joe Flacco. Will it matter with the holes like swiss cheese that the team has in the O-Line.?

SO, in picking, I will say that no one has repeated in this division since 2014, when Obama was the President and the Cowboys managed to do it.

So, in the league's weakest division,

1 BobTex's Dallas Cowboys 9-8 I may be wrong, but they are not THAT good. Here are my concerns, expressed before: New scheme on defense with weak defensive backs, no depth on O-Line which has long been a source of injury for the Cowboys, and too many questions about Dak. From a medical standpoint, I would suspect that the shoulder strain might have come from compensation relating to the stance which is a result of a weak/repaired ankle. Now I may be wrong, but I may be right. It looks suspicious. Remember, though, I was saying that this guy would be a great NFL QB long before most of the Cowboys fans I spoke to even knew about him. That happens when you watch games other than the College football game of the week.
(I also pointed out that Kerry von Eric had an obvious fake leg before that story went public too, but , oh well)
I suspect now that Dak may take some time to get back into form, but he needs to generate points because the opponents with decent passing QBs probably will be. If the Cowboys lose, it will be more to injuries than to division opponents

MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: the whole team stays healthy, DAK returns to true form, so does ZEKE and the defense suddenly finds a way to shut down the plays at the line
It is going to be a long season if: ANYONE gets hurt on the offensive line, or Dak does not rebound from last year's injury, or Mike McCarthy gets distracted by the hotdog vendor during the final two minutes.

2 WASHINGTON REDSKINS
8-9 Fitz may be a great old geezer, but I doubt the team will get more than 8 wins. Which in a normal year, would be an 8-8 season and better than last years effort, but Riverboat Ron is going to have to get a real long term QB at some point. And maybe a real mascot too. Th term "Washington Football team" is offensive, because they do not play like a real football team much of the time.

Make Super Bowl Plans if: FITZMAGIC Shines through and the coaching of Rivera brings the team into the playoffs
It is going to be a long season if: The Defense cannot find itself by week 4.

3 PHILADELPHIA EAGLES 7-10 THE LAST TIME I picked them to be as Bad as I actually think they are going to be this year, they won the Super Bowl SO, to save face, I am picking them third, but let's face it, the talent level in this division leaves much to be desired. SO do the gaps in the team, but a solid effort from Big Joe Flacco will show that Brady and Fitztragic are not the only old geezers with a little drive left in them.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: Somehow, the Arm of Old Big Joe Flacco can carry the team to more than 10 wins
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: Opponents find the weak links in the defense and mix up plays .

4 New York FOOTBALL GIANTS 5-12 Another team that has a QB that really needs to step up, and they have relied too heavily on the run with Barkley, who now has a gammy leg, early in life. They receiving Corps is decent enough, so what is wrong here? OH WAIT it is the Offensive coordinator. That is the problem. Good luck then.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: They decide to find a new Offensive coordinator and Daniel Jones plays to his potential.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF: Who Knows, this is the NFC East?

IN The NFC North, The Old School Black and Blue Division (never mind that the best team wears green and yellow) All talk has been on the Packers and Aaron Rogers. Well, rightly so, The league is QB driven and rogers is the best QB in that division. The Bears took two steps back, hiring Andy Dalton, who showed his value in a stand and pass system last year, ahead of Justin Fields and Nick Folk, both capable of stepping up into the first string but none able to match Rogers. The Lions meanwhile, made a killer trade, drafted the future pro bowler at tackle, and have two draft picks in the next years first round. Could it be that someone in Detroit Rock City is actually thinking ahead about a long term plan? Finally, we have the Vikings, where Kirk Cousins has not panned out as the franchise QB yet. They picked up the strong armed Mond kid from A&M who has the strength but will need some time to develop as a viable starter. Will make for an interesting division, early on at least, but later on, I see the Pack pulling away from the rest of the Pack and the lions ending up with a top 5 draft pick.

1 SUSAN'S GREEN BAY ACME PACKERS 11-6 I think Rogers will easily take 10 games for the team. I think 10 games will be more than enough to get any NFC team into the payoffs, because the NFC is more imbalanced than the AFC. Rogers is a smart QB. Just let him play. Plus, the league's best fans, best tailgating, great stadium. what more is there?
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: Rogers has no distractions and the team seeps the Division going into the playoffs
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF Coaching or supporting cast interfere with a good thing.

2 CHICAGO BEARS8-9 DA BEARS have three QB's again, any one could play but none as good as Rogers. Add that to the fact that in a league where a team needs to be able to pass 70% of the plays, and the three QBs trying that will likely only get a 50% success rate at best, well, a winning season may happen but 9-8 won't buy a playoff ticket. The Bras may consider going into hibernation early and waking up for the drat in the Spring.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: QB by Committee actually works for once in the NFL
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF We see visions of Dalton from last year

3 MINNESOTA VIKINGS 8-9 Well, sooner or later, the division has to not finish exactly as years before. The MEENuhSOWduh Vikings went out and drafted some decent players, but so far, injuries in preseason and slow development have not been too favorable for much improvement.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: Cousins suddenly becomes that supposed franchise player for the first time in his career
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF The Vikings continue their mediocrity for another season.

4 DETROIT "ROCK CITY" LIONS 4-13 Portly Matt Patricia will not be waddling the sidelines this year. Former Tight End coach Dan Campbell inspires little hope among the experts, but given the team he has on the field, he needs to do a Jimmy Johnson, make the players have fun, and build on Goff's experience and hope for some good talent in the draft. 5 picks in the first 3 rounds. Fans can also look forward to the Red Wings and the Pistons starting up in October.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: GOFF wants to go out with a BANG
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF The Lions go into Hibernation after week 3 because after all, this is a very immature and talent-deficient team.

ACF SOUTH Speaking of Hibernation, the Panthers traded for someone else's franchise QB so that they could then craft another Franchise QB, all the while passing on a potential franchise Coach to keep a former mediocre college coach. So The Black Cats will probably be the first team going into Hibernation, in a season in which again, CATS will not do well. Birds on the other hand, with the exception of the Eagles, will be much improved, but the Falcons have the longest flight with a new system but a decent aging QB. The Saints are the talk of the Town, if N'Awlins is your town, but Winston as a QB? We will see if the problems of seasons past were the Succaneers coaches or Winston himself. Brady and the Buccaneer's will likely take the division, but do they have the ability to go the distance, especially when a few good coaches in the NFW west probably have already figured out how to beat them.

1 TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS 12-5 I seriously just get tired of hearing about it, but we have both the Super Bowl Champion and the Stanley Cup NHL Champion here. Los Angeles, on the other hand , has the basketball and baseball champs from last year. But turn on the TV or local radio, all they talk about is the Buccaneers. Fortunately, I have Satellite radio, and cable TV So I don't have to hear it.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: It is rigged, and Brady and Company, returning 22 of 22 starters, manage to stay healthy.
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF Too many players get injured, because there is NO DEPTH on this team.

2 NEW ORLEANS SAINTS 9-8 Will the Saints defense and skill players carry this team, or will Winston, as MANIAC Says, get smoked? It is a point that there is some serious talent and good coaching on he team, but the league has become so very QB driven that they may need to look for a new driver.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: What if Winston shows his Heisman trophy skills for once?
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF Winston shows us more of the same

3 ATLANTA FALCONS
6-11 IT is risky picking the Dirty Birds 3rd with so many new faces on the sidelines as well as the field, but Ryan still has a few wins left in him. Sadly, it will not be enough to punch a playoff ticket. And the new systems will likely garner 6 wins.

4 CAROLINA PANTHERS 4-13 Just to point out, Darnold was a disappointment in the Jets system. Do not know why people think he will somehow be better in this system, but at least he does not have to play at LaGuardia field half the time.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF: The team flies under the radar and no one notices them
IT's GOING TO BE A LONG SEASON IF Winter starts early and the Cats need to hibernate.

AND Now the toughest Division the NFS WEST The problem with having the 4 best teams in one division is that they each have 6 games against each other. But on paper, any of these teams could win the Super Bowl. Think about that. Any of these teams could be in the next Super Bowl. SO let's get to it.

1 LOS ANGELES RAMS 14-3 The RAMS have their QB and have a solid supporting cast, including backups at each position. IF this team does not finish first, I would fire the coaching staff the day after the season ends. The Rookie HB will be the right player in this system to disrupt defenses while opening passing lanes for Stafford to throw at will.
Make Super Bowl Plans if : The team plays to it's potential and hosts the Big game at home for the second season in a row
It's going to be a long season if: Coaches somehow manage to ********** one up.

2 ARIZONA CARDINALS 11-6 I have been high on the Pesky Red birds ever since they got Kyler Murray, and now they have one more receiver, one more RB and a solid rookie at LB They can run 4 Wide receivers and there is no dime CB in the division that can stop them.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF The team finally becomes mature and Kyler shows his full potential
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF The Defense does not play to the level we are expecting from the Offense.

3 SEATTLE SEAHAWKS
11-6 Keep in Mind, that super cool guy chewing gum on the sidelines is a coaching genius. His name is Pete Carroll. Give him 11 guys and he will give you a formation and a set that knows how to play like pros. Never count this team out when he is in charge. Plus, they gave him more talent than last year. Expect playoffs from this team
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF Pete Carroll has his way.
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF opposing coaches find the weakness in the defensive mid field.

4 MANIAC's SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
10-7 I could only give them 9-8 because I do not trust Jimmy Garrapallo to remain healthy. IF he does, then I would say 11-6 easily. So let's take the average. I do not think the new QB will impact as a rookie, but he may have too; Jimmy G just has too long of a history of injuries. And I think the team needs to look to move on from him, perhaps they are. But in the most competitive division, that they could win outright if they all remained injury free, Bosa needs to stay healthy and emerge as a play by play defensive leader. his presence on the D side of the ball is most important to the success of this team. With him, this defense can win games.
MAKE SUPER BOWL PLANS IF Jimmy G returns to form, Bosa stays healthy and the team gets back to solid defensive football
IT WILL BE A LONG SEASON IF The team suffers the injury bug from last year

SO looking into the Playoffs, I see the Cowboys, the Packers, the Buccaneers and the Rams winning their divisions outright. And while the odds are against it, probably as unlikely as a team hosting the Super bowl, I will say that 3 wild card teams will come out of the NFC West because I think the 49ers have beefed up areas of injury risk, Pete Carroll is already up to something, the Pesky Red Birds are just loaded with talent.

The Playoffs will be
Rams bye

49ers at Buccaneers
Cardinals at Packers
Seahawks at Cowboys

The Cowboys do not have the talent to go deep in the playoffs, and I doubt they have the coaching either. I can see the Cardinals beating the Pack on the road, but in the end Rogers experience in the snow over the younger Murray
That will set up Seahawks at Rams and
Packers at Buccaneers
I would expect the Seahawks and Rams to split their series in the season.

That means, and this is a risky pick, but two years in a row, the home team hosts the Super bowl as the RAMS beat the Buccaneers.

THIS Sets up a rare #1 vs #1 seed in the Super Bowl which again hardly ever happens, but it allows the RAMS to win at home and take the Lombardi trophy back to L A . (which will not sit next to that MLB Pennant which is likely going into the crappy Stadium across town. And if Tampa teams won the Super Bowl, Stanley Cup and World Series in a row, I'd need some serious catnip to get through hearing about it. )

Great write up as always! Not sure the Rams with Stafford is immediately a SB team but we'll see!

Of course, I'm biased as I want the Packers to get there . . .finally with AR.

Can the Chiefs do it, get there 3 times? Should be a great season this year, can't wait!
