I bought this blender for use in my small catering company. While I did not have the money to buy a truly, made-for-professionals blender, I am a fan of the Blendtec brand and, after research and personal recommendations, decided to purchase this model as well as a larger sized blending jar.
One of my favorite things about this unit is that the blending container is clear plastic all the way to the bottom, even past the place where the blades connect. This is immeasurably helpful when blended chunky things, like potatoes for soup or ice cubes for margaritas. This also make it easy to be certain all corners of the blending jar are spotlessly clean, which is essential to a professional outfit.
Besides that, there are other great design features. The blender is heavy and solid, unlikely to tip over, while not being too heavy to easily move or shift on the counter. The digital display and buttons are functional and useful without being too bogged down with words. They also have a texture to them, so it's very difficult to hit the wrong button by accident. If you did, though, it wouldn't be the end of your dish, because the machine is designed to slow or turn off when things are completely blended.
The pre-programmable buttons are by the far the most helpful feature of the product. For someone like me, who consistently blends the same ingredients for the same dishes, this is a great, worry-free time saver.
The only thing that bothers me about the Blendtec is that it definitely splashes more within the blending jar than comparable blenders. It just requires more scraping the sides to make sure thick purees and even creamy dressings get a really good, consistent mix. But, it is not a huge problem, and not a problem at all for thinner things like cocktails or smoothies.
