Keeping with Scion's approach of looking cool and stylish, the xD is the company's response to the recent resurgence of vehicles like the Toyota Yaris and Honda Fit. These subcompacts cater to the young urban professionals who may be in the early stages of starting a family. Cars such as these often excellent maneuverability and gas mileage but also provide that little extra storage option via the introduction of the hatchback, fifth door.
However, the Scion xD weds together all of these various traits in a more attractive package than most of the competition. The car certainly has a space age look to it that is sure to turn some heads and entice prospective buyers. I would say the car is pretty fashionable but this may harm it down the road as tastes invariably change. The interior isn't too shabby either and not only is it very comfortable and spacious, impressive considering how little this car is, but just looks well thought out and futuristic.
Nevertheless, the car simply doesn't handle as well as it should. The ride is solid enough and the car feels durable enough so it won't crush like tin foil if it was to be in an accident but taking turns makes the vehicle feel like it's going to careen off the road unless you're careful. This is balanced by a very peppy engine that gets you where you are going in a hurry.
However, the lack of mine precision when it comes to maneuverability is certainly a downside when this car is at home in its natural urban habitat. The fast engine is nice and styling is downright impressive but the car seems more accessory or play toy to really be taken all that seriously. Nevertheless, the car is very affordable is certainly attractive to people on a budget.
