The Hobbyist Metal Detector TC-1006 by Treasure Cove

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

My youngest son, who is an adult now, had always wanted a metal detector. I decided to purchase this metal detector after doing a bit of research online. My son is a beginner just learning how and where to find little treasures and this detector fit that bill perfectly. It has an 8 inch waterproof coil that detects the metal. It is very easy to operate and only weighs four pounds, and requires three 9 volt batteries.

The reason I bought this model is two fold. The price was less than one hundred dollars, I found it on sale, and it was made for the beginner hobbyist to use. I wanted to make sure if my son did not like this one and gave up the hobby that I wasn't going to lose a lot of money on this gift.

There are no real bells and whistles it is quite a plain detector. So far, my son has found coins, and a few pieces of jewelry. He hasn't been to many places with this machine but he is planning a day detecting metal at the beach near by our home.

This metal detector does exactly what it says it can do. It does alert you when you have come across pieces of metal. The one feature that is nice to have is the low battery light. The light will come on as the batteries are losing their life. Nine volt batteries are not that expensive. This model is equipped with 1/8 inch headphone jack. It is necessary to purchase the headphones separately if you are going to use this machine on a regular basis, simply so you can hear the machine noise a bit better. My son really is enjoying his new hobby and loves this brand metaldetector.
