2008 Smart Fortwo

Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Currently 2.0/5.0

How can anyone resist getting behind the wheel of the little car that can? The Smart Fortwo is certainly one of the wackiest looking cars on the roadways today but there seems to be a strong demand for these little boxes on wheels since more and more of the vehicles have begun to proliferate on the roadways.
While the Smart Fortwo is certainly one of the smallest cars on the road, which would indicate that the vehicle can run on a thimble of gasoline, this is not the case. The vehicle is shockingly pretty fuel inefficient. When compared against other vehicles, the Smart Fortwo simply doesn't save enough gasoline to make the necessary sacrifices in space and speed practical.
Nevertheless, these fuel shortcomings are only apparent should the vehicle be used on a daily commuting basis. The countryside and the suburbs is no place for a Smart Fortwo. The long distances and higher speeds required ensure this vehicle lags far behind of larger suburban designed cars. This vehicle needs to thrive in an urban setting.
The small size of this car is actually quite deceptive. While only two people can fit in the vehicle, this is accomplished quite comfortably considering how itty bitty the actual frame is. However, don't bet on hauling groceries in this thing as the storage space is little more than a few feet square. Another advantage of this car's small size is that it can be parked literally anywhere. Sometimes it feels like this car is nothing more than an enclosed scooter due to the highly improbable nature of parking spaces this little car can transverse. Still, this vehicle is certainly not for everyone and many of the sacrifices motorists make in size is barely made up for in fuel savings. The car also comes with an eyebrow raising price tag.
