Fisher & Paykel WL80T65CW1 Aquasmart Washing Machine
Rating: 4 out of 5
One of the most used appliances in the house; I wanted something that had a good reputation as washing well and lasting. This one was recommended to me. There is never any issue with washing anything. It takes 8kgs which is a huge amount!
There are so many options for washing - so many more then I expected. You don't have to specify water level because it automatically senses it, which is a great water saver. When washing, the LCD screen shows options with the best washing style for that particular thing you are washing - some of the options include regular, heavy, sheets, bulky, delicate and you can even go into another section and select a particular type of stain (eg. Blood, grass etc) and the temperature, type of wash - the washing setting is set specifically to target what you are washing. You can also change these options as well eg- the regular wash turns fabric softer off, but you just press a button and that comes back on for that wash - there is also an option to save the change for future washes.
The fabric softener section is very convenient. The washing machine I previously had didn't have this and the softer had to be manually added in the rinse cycle. This is so much easier - add the washing powder in its place, add the softener in its place and all the work is done for you as it is released into the wash at its appropriate intervals.
A good feature is the lock feature. Once the machine is on and running you cannot lift the lid without first pausing the cycle. This is especially good if children may try to open the lid during a spin cycle or something like that, also it locks after the wash begins so while it is still filling with water if you wish to add more into the machine that can be done too so you know when it's too late to do so.
The washing cycle does take quite a long amount of time. It depends on the setting but even the regular wash. The time delay is a great feature too because if you wish to set it and then go out, you can have it finished just before arriving home. When the cycle is finished the machine beeps quite loudly to advise.
There is a high efficiency mode which says to save even more water but I never remember to press the button so really I don't use that.

I've had my FP Aquasmart for 5 years & hate it. It takes too long to do a load & I dont have the control over it that I'd like. If I want to add an item to the wash, I dont want 10minutes to be added to the cycle because I've paused it to open the lid. I want to be able to do a quick wash too, but I cant with this machine. I'm looking forward to the day it breaks down. I wont be getting it fixed, I'll be buying a different machine. My neighbor needed a new machine & I advised her against buying 1 of these, but she liked the look of it & bought 1 anyway! She's very sorry she did & hated hers too. A few weeks ago, hers died & she was delighted to have an excuse to buy a different machine. I must say, I'm a tad jealous!!
