2007 GE Side-By-Side Refrigerator

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The 2007 GE Model GSS25LSWSS Stainless Steel Side-by-Side Refrigerator offers excellent features for its price point (2007 MSRP $1,421.84). The sleek look of the stainless steel, the rounded edges, and the black sides were excellent aesthetic features and selling points for me. The ice and water system in the door were also features that sold me on this refrigerator. Other features include: 25.4 cubic feet of space, large door bins, slide-out drawers and shelves in both the freezer and the refrigerator, adjustable shelves in the refrigerator, a Quick Ice option, a TurboCool setting for cooling groceries quickly, and an ExpressChill option in one refrigerator drawer (for a sales suggestion of cooling drinks quickly). The refrigerator is also an Energy Star appliance with an AutoEnergy Saver feature which automatically adjusts the refrigeration cycles when doors open, reducing energy consumption.

Most of the features operate perfectly. The space in this refrigerator is more than adequate, and the space in the door bins is much larger than most. A full gallon of milk easily fits in half of one bin, and two cartons of eggs fit in the egg container. There is also plenty of room for condiments in the remaining door bins. The slide-out drawers make cleaning the refrigerator easier, and the adjustable shelves adapt to any product, including party trays. The TurboCool setting works well, cooling new groceries within 30 minutes. The ExpressChill option also works very well for chilling drinks quickly: it chills a drawer full of drinks in 45 minutes. The AutoEnergy Saver kicks the refrigerator motor off while loading groceries, and restarts the motor when the door is closed for a while.

However, given the features that work perfectly, there are a few flaws in the remaining features. The ice and water system in the door are imperfect. Repeated use of the in-the-door ice produces little ice within an acceptable time frame. After producing two glasses of ice, the refrigerator cannot push ice through the door as quickly, and I often use the pull down ice bin for quantities of ice larger than two glasses. Also, the ice machine spits ice out and often misses average glasses. Also, I do not need crushed ice often, however, the few times I have needed crushed ice, I was very unhappy with the refrigerator performance: the refrigerator cannot crush ice fast enough to be used in my ice cream machine, and I have resorted to buying crushed ice if I wish to make ice cream.

Although the ice features are imperfect, I really like this refrigerator. All of the other options work well, and the refrigerator is aesthetically pleasing.
