Weight has always been an reliable measure of a household iron. A quality household iron should be heavy in the hand. The Black & Decker Quickpress could be heavier, which accurately sets expectations for its performance. The patented steam technology should adjust steam as needed during the ironing process, but instead seems to puff away randomly with little effect. The iron often leaks when steaming, leaving a large wet scorch or splatter on the shirt. This is more obvious on dress shirts and linen, and will often make a garment unwearable. The iron plate does have a non-stick surface, which has proven to be useful, especially when attempting to iron delicate materials on too high a setting. The iron is equipped with 7 heat settings and offers a coordinating fabric guide. However, the iron doesn't seem to be effective on any setting below 5.The sprayer is random and unreliable. The strength and consistency of the water spray is unpredictable, creating a fine mist at best, yet more often producing a heavy spurt that leaves large spots on the fabric that, once ironed, are there to stay until the next wash. The Quickpress does live up to its name for speed. The iron heats up quickly and, once heated, maintains a consistent temperature throughout the ironing chore. The shape of the iron is nice, offering a point fine enough to reach around buttons and into the creases of pleats. It's easy to hold and control and fits comfortably in the hand. The Quickpres is sturdy and made out of quality materials. While it could be heavier, it was not as light as others in its price range. Price rise, it runs right down the middle. It offers a superior option to the base models, for a reasonable price of $25. However, if you are purchasing the iron for dress shirts or blouses, you would be better off investing a few more dollars in a better quality product.
