I have a full sized sewing machine but it can be a little bulky to use on small projects. I thought a mini machine would be the way to go, but I have been less than impressed with this machine.
First of all, the thread snaps frequently in this machine. I'm not sure what's wrong with the tension but there is definitely an issue. Sometimes every few minutes the thread will break and I'm back to re-threading it again. Occasionally it will also break the needle. I have gone through more needles on this little machine in 5 months than I typically use in 5 years on my main machine.
Of course, the upside to this machine is that it's really small and compact. That aspect is great - when it can work. I've used it to fix up some curtains without having to take them down and I've used it to quickly fix a seam on a pair of slacks. Once again though, the issue with the thread breaking means that sometimes it can take me a lot longer to complete projects than it should. For example, if I'm fixing a seam and the thread breaks twice, the time it takes me to re-thread and finish the job ends up being longer than it would have taken to get my big machine ready to go.
The other positive aspect of this sewing machine is that it is very inexpensive. Mine cost less than $20. I would say that I've definitely gotten my money's worth, despite the problems. I think this machine might be ideally suited for someone who doesn't have a larger machine and who isn't familiar with how they work. This would allow them to make quick little repairs at a reasonable price.
