2000 Chevy Tahoe LT

Rating: 4 out of 5
  • Currently 4.0/5.0

The 2000 Chevy Tahoe LT has been for our family a high quality, tough, powerful, and strong vehicle for living in a mountain town with a harsh winter climate. For a family of four it fits us all comfortably, and it has been an enjoyable experience to own such a reliable vehicle. While it does suck down a lot of gas, it's a tremendously useful vehicle for all-around family use, and can comfortably take us wherever we need to go.

One of the first things that strikes you about a Chevy Tahoe is its size. The bench seats in front and rear are very comfortable, and you can seat four people in the car in extreme comfort. There is also plenty of room in the cargo area for groceries, sports equipment, or tools and other goodies from Home Depot. You can tow a trailer if need be as well, so you will have no worries if you have to haul a handful of people and a lot of goodies all at the same time. Even if you can't fit it in the car, the LT has the towing package so all you need to do is hook up a trailer and you're good to go.

Another great thing about the Tahoe is its 5.7 Vortec engine. While some may complain that this is a lot of engine, and that you don't get good gas mileage on it, our experience has been rather positive. On cross-country trips we have averaged around 18 miles per gallon. Pretty impressive with a loaded-down vehicle and lots of uphills along the way. Around town we experience around 12 to 15 miles per gallon, which really isn't that bad considering the engine size. And even greater is the fact that we've racked up over 100,000 miles on this engine and it still hums like the day we bought it. The Vortec engine really is one of the best parts of this vehicle, and gives you great power with great efficiency. While some may want four wheel drive with less horsepower, we'll gladly take the extra horsepower and fewer miles per gallon.

In short, this car has been great for what we use it for. We have two kids so we are always hauling them around, their friends, and sometimes the jetskis or a boat (since we live on a lake). And when the snow is on the roads, it's great to have that four-wheel-drive power to get around through the rutty, icy snowpack. All in all it's a great vehicle for the four seasons, with American-built, heavy steel quality to boot. I will definitely buy another once we drive the wheels off of this truck!
