2010 Nissan Versa

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

I remember watching a certain show on NBC that continually beat me over the head with product placement ads for the Nissan Versa. Whether their marketing strategy worked or not is up for debate but it certainly made me want to give the Versa a crack. After finally getting my hands on one I was pleased with the drive but found myself in no rush to run out and purchase one.
The car styling is a tad endearing but I've certainly seen slicker looking cars in this class. My first impression of the car was how lacking it was in many basic amenities. I was scouting out the vehicle's interior and reviewing the basic model features and found that basic certainly describes this vehicle. It was basic in complete capital letters, written in bold and underlined. While the price was very reasonable and I could see it being a quick car in a pinch for those on a budget, the surprising lack of features for an import made it seem I was being ripped off.
The interior is roomy and would suit the needs of a growing family that needs to hold on to every nickel and dime, even if it is at the expense of basic necessities such as power windows and air conditioning.
Pick up and power for the Versa wasn't anything special. It was neither good nor bad but simply got the job done. Fuel economy was rated sufficiently high enough for thrifty buyers. I wasn't impressed with this car but I can't say it's a terrible ride. There definitely is a large market for the Versa and the car does have a number of options to upgrade from its most basic. Nevertheless, I couldn't shake the feeling that there were better choices out there within the same price ballpark.
