Sharper Image Ionic Breeze GP (Germicidal Protection)
Rating: 4 out of 5
I purchased two Sharper Image Ionic Breeze GPs in 2006, for approximately $495 each. This price was about mid-range for equivalent air purifiers. This model is built with electronically charged metal plates, which are used as a filter instead of needing a replaceable filter. Each came with a cleaning cloth for cleaning the metal plates, which is very easy to do. After cleaning I just throw the rag into the washing machine and it is ready to go for the next time.
The two I purchased stand about 2 1/2 feet tall, with a black body and dark brown panel at the top. They blend very well with most home decor, and do not stand out at all like some of the competitions models. The controls that are on the top are very basic and self explanatory. One is for On/Off/On GP and the other is for Lo/Medium/High. There is also a light that comes on to tell when it needs to be cleaned, although you can also tell it needs to be cleaned when you hear a slight static sound coming from it. Other than when it needs to be cleaned, it is completely silent.
I am impressed with the amount of dust and dirt that the purifier is able to rid the air of.
Of the two I purchased, one stopped working (would not turn on) about two years after I purchased it. The other one is still working as well as the day I bought it. I am giving an overall rating of 4 on this model. The one that is still working gets a 5, as I think it does a great job, but the one that lasted only two years gets a 3, because I feel that for the price they should both still be working.
