I always enjoy a review of Harbor Freight tools and products for they are usually filled with negative comments about "Made in China" or some other country. The critic will then espouse the benefits of his "American Made" tool. Time to wake up friend since most of our tools come from China or other Asian country with an American name on the label.
It is difficult to find a tool or machine manufactured in America by Americans. I want to make a pitch for Harbor Freight 5 speed drill press. It is advertised as inexpensive and it is selling for $69 when foreign built American named tools sell for three to four times as much. Once you have used the drill press, you will wonder how you got along without one.
I purchased my drill press two years ago for my home shop. It appears to be modeled after any of a variety of other drill presses. It changes speed by changing the location of the drive belt on two V-belt spindles at the top of the machine. You can vary the speed from as low as 620 rpm to 3100 rpm to suit the need for the material you are drilling.
The cast iron table is adjustable up and down as well as being able to tilt 45 degrees for angled drilling. You can purchase an adjustable vise that bolts to the table for holding the piece to be drilled. It has an adjustable depth adjustment to control the depth of your hole. One of my criticisms is that the downward stroke is only 2 inches and you may have to move the table up to complete your hole.
