Garrett Ace Metal Detector

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The Garrett Ace is one of the best on the market for the money that I planned on spending on a metal detector. Compared to the Bounty Hunter brand I was considering, this model was the top of the line for a beginning beach comber. The aggressive look really added to my overall decision to chose this metal detector over another. The booklet that came with the detector was helpful and simple to follow so that I was able to easily figure out how to set all of the features so that I would always get the correct depth, position, and pinpointing so that I would easily find the location of any buried treasure in the sand, snow or grass. The $215 price tag was well worth the fun that I have each morning that I get to go out on the beach and play, I was even able to find the neighbor's wedding ring that she dropped in the snow. Overall, it is light weight compared to some of the other models that I considered.

My biggest complaint with this metal detector is that it is loud. It makes a fair bit of annoying noise as it goes about its way. It is very accurate in finding things, however, there is no discrimination in this machine as it will alert you to every gum wrapper, cat food can, and nickel, as well as any real treasure that might be found. I have found that this metal detector does not find gold well, so if you chance by some it's because there is silver or other metal close by. As a beginner, this is a good machine to start with, however, some of the controls are hard to follow. It is difficult to distinguish the noises as the "tracking" and "finding" noises are very similar. I give this metal detector a 3 for overall accuracy in description and usability. Once you figure it out, it's great!
