Magic Chef 0.7 cu ft Rotary Microwave -MCD770RW
Rating: 1 out of 5
This Magic Chef 0.7 cubic foot microwave offers basic functionality at an MSRP of $59.99. It is an adequate microwave for someone who has just moved out on their own, but unfortunately cannot be counted upon for serious cooking tasks.
However, durability is certainly an aspect worthy of praise here. This model is required to withstand heavy usage from my workplace office staff of over ten employees. It has so far held up to a year, in which it was being used at least 5-10 times per day. Also, is constructed of material that is very easy to clean with simple soap and water. For users who are looking for a model with "no fuss" craftsmanship that can also be counted on to perform reliably, this microwave should be carefully considered.
It is also designed in a way that is pleasing to the eye and minimalistic. Users who expect their microwave to include the precise cooking capabilities will likely be frustrated with the lack of customization, however. There are two dial controls on the front of the unit which control time and cooking settings, respectably. However, it is difficult to set the timing dial to a specific duration because the dial is quite cumbersome, often making adjustment attempts very erratic.
Also, the heating capabilities are often unreliable even when food-specific packaging instructions are closely followed. This problem is so prevalent that I have to test my food before leaving the kitchen to ensure that the entire portion is of the appropriate warmth. Users should expect their food to either be scalding hot, or lukewarm. There seems to be no middle ground.
Although the budget pricing and durability of this microwave deserve recognition, there are so many other issues that users would do well to look elsewhere.
