2010 Scion xB

Rating: 2 out of 5
  • Currently 2.0/5.0

I've heard people describe the Scion xB as being either excessively fat or a big box on wheels. I'm inclined to agree on both counts. The exterior of this car just looks ugly. It appears like the manufacturer simply took out a large storage cube and glued a pair of wheels to it. This car is certainly not going to win any awards for its appearance due to its chubby exterior.
What surprises me is that I see these cars used all the time in the city. While the car is a big fat cube, its design is such is that it can traverse spaces larger sport utility vehicles wouldn't dare to venture. Many of these vehicles end up in the hands of young urban couples because the car is targeted in such a way as to cater to the 'trendy' crowd.
This is accomplished by giving it a sleek interior and a stereo system that can knock your socks off. From what I've experienced, Scions appear to be a brand that believes it cool. While the ultimate verdict on that is left up to the individual motorist, Scion sacrifices a lot to differentiate itself from the herd and to carve out its own niche market away from the traditional ground already covered by a vast industry.
Since the car is chunky it struggles to get up to speed and feels very unresponsive. Picture try to steer a boat and that's a close approximation of how it feels to pilot this beast. Granted, the cavernous interior is certainly a plus when hauling cargo, but there are a wide number of other vehicles that can certainly perform this role far better. One of the big pluses for this vehicle is that it carries a very low price tag, something common to many Scion models.
