I wanted a separate freezer to put in the garage to store meat only. I felt it would be easier for meal planning if meat was in one freezer and vegetables and other items were in our side by side unit. I purchased the Haier HNCM053E with a list price of $250 which was in my budget range for this purchase.
The product information stated it would hold 159 pounds of food and that sounded reasonable for the space this freezer requires. It also has a flat back to save space in my garage area. It measures 22.1 x 29.3 x 32.6 inches and is not that difficult to move with a weight of 84 pounds.
If I had it to do over again, I would still purchase this freezer. Its cooling capability is awesome and it has plenty of space for my needs. If you have a large family, you may want a bigger unit, but this is a fine sized unit for our family of three.
I noticed in other reviews that the product is not packaged well for shipping, usually arriving damaged and dented. I picked my unit up locally, so I did not experience any shipping issues.
The cord could stand to be a little bit longer, but I don't consider that a determining factor for a purchase of this freezer. The freezer is easy to move on a flat surface with its included wheels. The unit runs quietly and smoothly.
One particular thing I don't like about it is the manual defrost. With the modern technology we have available today, an auto defrost feature would be a great addition to this Haier chest freezer.
Most all of the unfavorable reviews on this product are due to poor packaging and damage in shipment. It is an excellent freezer for the money but you are highly advised to pick the unit up locally or have it delivered by your local appliance store.
We picked ours up personally and have been very pleased with this freezer. It cooled very quickly after setup and I was able to start loading it with food the same afternoon. The Haier freezer is a great buy in a freezer as long as you don't have it shipped to you. I do not hesitate to recommend this freezer as a quality item; as long as you follow the advice on shipping, you'll be fine.
I have had this unit for 8 years and it has not failed once, even though we have moved 4 times. The unit lasted 3 days unplugged before any sign of defrosting. I might add the freezer has stood the test of 3 children growing up and though it lost it's white color it is a solid machine once I had to defrost the unit and clean the box and the freezer started up again.Wporks best with a full box.
