Release 2005 Price 314.00

The Porter Cable free standing drill press has several good options that I really liked, it has laser guide, lighted work area, 4" spindle travel, 12 operating speeds and the work table is adjustable.

The laser puts a red cross of laser light where the drill bit will contact your work, so that it makes it easier to line up where to drill. This makes it easier to center where you want to drill instead chasing the center punch mark to center the drill bit, with the laser marker you can put the laser cross hairs on the mark and the drill will hit there.

The Porter Cable has a 4" spindle travel so you can drill completely through a 4" piece in one smooth operation. This makes it easier to drill through parts that have already been fabricated, or just drill through some odd shaped material. The handle to raise and lower the spindle can be reversed and mounted on either side of the drill press hub. This makes it easier for left handed people to operate it or if you have an unusually shaped project and the handle is in your way you can just switch it to the other side, and make it more accessible.

This drill press has 12 operating speeds from 300 - 3100 RPM for drilling and sanding projects. This allows you to drill slower so as not to create to much heat when drilling through some heavy duty projects. The higher speeds work well when drill through thinner pieces, with the faster speed you are taking smaller bites of the material, thereby making a smoother cut, this works great for those delicate project that you want that extra fine, smooth hole.

The Porter Cable has a work table that will also tilt 45 degrees for added ease in drilling some of those wholes at an angle. This gives the person that builds out of metal a unique opportunity, you can tilt the work table up to 45 degrees to drill holes at an angle. I have put a hole saw in the chuck and clamped a piece of pipe to the table and tilted the table to cut a notch in the end of the pipe to fit a pipe brace into the roll cage on my race car. This makes for a very good fit and a nice clean weld.

The Porter Cable free standing drill press has all of the necessary options on it to make it one of the tools in your shop that will get used often. You will find this a tool you cannot do without.
