When I purchased this Skil Dual Source 12v drill/driver it was to do odds and ends jobs around our home. The Dual Source is very convenient with both a battery and power cord I didn't need to worry if I put the drill/driver back on the charger right away. Skil was the only brand that I saw offered this combo for powering the drill. The drill/driver does work on less power when it is in use with the power cord and you are stuck in one spot when using the cord as well, but it gives enough juice for the small projects, drilling holes, putting in screws etc. The drill was very economical compared to the competition and I just didn't have the budget for the high end construction grade drill/driver combos. I have used this piece very often and it has yet to fail me, I'm a smaller frame women and do have a hard time sometimes getting enough muscle behind the drill to get it to go especially when I'm hanging blinds and it requires me to reach above my head and drill. This is where I think that's where the higher end drills would be better suited for me. They may have more torque behind them. This drill/driver has a six-position torque adjustment and key less chuck which is very convenient I do at times lack the griping skills to remove the drill/bit and require help sometimes. This is not a construction grade drill/driver and Skil does state that it's for occasional uses. If I was going to use a drill/driver on large projects I would purchase a construction grade drill/driver for the job which Skil does make. I would be happy staying with the same brand and just upgrading volt power. But, for occasional household uses which this drill/driver was intended for this is the perfect 12v drill/driver for small projects.
