The Porta Nails HAMMERHEAD 620 18 gauge Brad Nailer is a lightweight unit that does a fair job at installing brads and small nails. It does deliver the brads with precision but it could use some extra power when inserting them. I experienced issues of it not being able to drive them deep into hard or wet wood.
I suppose this is an excellent nailer if you needed it for only very lightweight jobs. It should work fine on finish trim and small moldings. It isn't very heavy, and does have a muffler on the read exhaust which makes this nailer quieter then others in its class.
Picking it up, you do get the scents of the unit being very well constructed. And that the 620 nailer will be able to handle a beating at any normal work site. The grip is covered in a rubber coating which adsorbs some of the kick from it making it fairly comfortable. But I still wear gloves with any nailer I use, for both extra comfort and protection. This is something I highly recommend.
The Porta Nails 620 brad nailer comes with a brad capacity of 100. I have found that it does not jam often and on the rare occasions when it did, it was not difficult to clear the jam. .
Overall this is a fair nailer that could use a little more kick to it. The price I have found this nailer advertized at is inline with other nailers in the same class. If you are looking for stolid nail for light duty, this one would suit you fine. But if you need to use larger nails then I suggest you look for a larger nailer with more power then this one can provide. -Reviewed by ConchRaider 12/14/2010
