GE 30" Slide-In Electric Range with Self-Cleaning Oven, Model JSP42BOK4BB

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

This GE Slide-In Electric Range offers a custom, built-in look without the custom price. It seamlessly fits across your countertop and features front-mounted controls for a clean look. The smooth glass cooktop is much easier to clean than other smooth cooktops I have used; a good scrubbing with a wet sponge is usually enough to clean up baked on food. Also, all color options come with a solid black cooktop, which hides dirt well until you get around to cleaning up. The oven offers a large capacity, a big viewing window, and a bright oven light, making it easy to check on what you are cooking and increasing the oven's practicality and aesthetic appeal.

The oven preheats very quickly, and a quiet fan kicks in when the oven is turned off to quickly cool the unit. Then oven cooks food evenly and very reliably, with top and bottom heating elements. The cooktop functions well, with burners that heat quickly to cook, respond quickly to the controls, and cool quickly once turned off. The Hot Surface indicator light lets you know if the burners are still too hot to touch.

Overall, the controls are intuitive to use, with a simple to use keypad mounted on the front of the unit. The only exception is the kitchen timer feature, which can be tricky to turn off without accidentally turning the oven off. The oven also features Delay Start and Hold Heat options, although it does not have a Sabbath mode. The self-cleaning option works well and is easy to use without having to consult the manual. The Hi and Lo Broil works as expected.

This GE electric range feels very well made, with a sturdy feel to both the cooktop and the oven door, and it cooks reliably and evenly. I have not had the need for any service calls for my appliance. I have been very pleased with this GE range. It offers a clean, modern, and pricey look without the attached price.
